Wanna see this blog explode??
Have Gorton sign 21 year old Center Leon Draisaitl to a $10 million/year Offer Sheet
Cost us 4 1st rounders, but could structure it so that Edmonton would never be able to match AND keep McDavid............
Now that would be FUN!!

No question he does. But he is a polarizing acquisition depending on cost/term.

I think it is a good idea due to age and the way salaries are trending for a player of his caliber. As others have said a move like this nukes your relationship with Edmonton regardless of the outcome.

Would definitely be fun though.

Deangelo's defensive game scares me though. Idk if we can count on him to be a top 4 guy right away. He still needs to improve.
- TPC

The exact reason we should stay away from Shattenkirk, struggles in his own end. Difference is Deangelo is 21 and hopefully can improve in his own end. Shattenkirk is what he is at this point.

Bad, Ok, OK

I dont think Clendening would cost them much, he would still be a cheap 7/8 Dman option in my opinion, unless they have Smith and another D-man that they feel they can easily get

MacD, Skjei, Smith, Holden, Deangelo, Stall, Shatten , and Kampfer?
I'd rather have Clendening then Kampfer but as a #8 I guess you are hoping neither ever plays anyway

Exactly my thinking because if they didn't think they could fix that right side I highly doubt Clendening would be let go.

Shattenkirk is coming off a 56 point season. He would've finished 3 points behind Zucc for team lead.

Its only a matter of time before nyr signs Smith. Need him. Played excellent in playoffs. With his and DeAngelos grit it will change back end . as long as deangelo isn't a head case. Don't think he would have been traded for if nyr suspected that. Shatty would be worth a flyer for a short term deal 6.5 mill, but dont see that happening. Can't get another big/ long term deal for a guy who hasn't played as a top 2 damn yet. I know he says he wants bigger role, but is he worth it. IMO.. No. Gotta be some lower priced damn that fits the bill via trade or FA. You guys would know the eighty d available better than I. Not talking trouba or Barrie either. All same as Shatty, just a bit younger and maybe higher ceiling. MCd, smith, skjei, deangelo, holden, staal (7th damn maybe. Russian kid, graves, and another From ???? Not too bad

I have no issue with Shatty as long as the price is right. Would rather do a trade but if its not there have to go with whats available

If we are looking for a #1 for our right side and we can't get it via trade, Shattenkirk is the next best available option. I know there is a lot of disagreement on this subject. I don't see that there is anyone currently in our pipeline that I know of that could fill that spot. I also don't think AV would play a rookie on the top pairing.

Does he aid in the rebuilding on the fly? (This sarcasm for Gorton and Co. Not you, please don't be offended.)

You mean you don't think Klein, DeAngelo, Pionk or Zborovsky can step in and fill in that void?

Lefty tho. If the Rangers sign alzner it would be a head scratcher imo. I feel like it would be Orpik, Staal or Girardi all over again also. Not a fan of that idea

On Shatty, I'm on the fence with him. I don't like his personality. In that it would be the same kind they have a lot of and Id prefer more macho men types at this point lol. He doesn't exude winner in anyway, his teams have always crumbled and you can't deny he hasn't been part of that. So that scares me. However, people always bring up negatives when saying a player is a good or bad signing. What he does do IS EXACTLY what they need on Defense. All teams have dmen that "cant play defense", but those players generally are solid offensively and so is he. Deangelo is perhaps someone that could do what he does, but it's tough to count a kid like him on a team like this. I don't see his addition doing anything to stop them from going for Shatty or someone else m. They still need two ride side D, deangelo is only one.
