I don't know much about what's in your pipeline, but they're gonna have to go deal some picks/prospects for defensive prospects. I'm shocked you guys weren't in on Hamonic. Can round out your top 4, can jump up into the top 2 if need be, plus a great contract. And we need a 2C still.
- Dedshark

Hamonic is solid, but not worth that haul.

It's not like he went to Washington where you know they will be picking late twenties.

Flames will probably be a bit later honestly.

It sucks because I should be doing kart wheels for what we got. But we're so tired of draft picks. All of us were expecting him to be moved for a center. I love and hate the trade lol.

We still have DeHaan that could possibly be moved. Plus two 1st rounders next year. Also, you guys should take a look at Devon Toews.

Don't bother trying to reason with him, this dude is the Trump of these forums.

I'm wrong because we should have drafted a D when all they kept saying is how we need to upgrade the defense and now i'm wrong?

Politics have nothing to with what we are talking about so maybe we should just keep it within the hockey area.

There was no dman to take at 8. The only d worthy of it went 3,4 and 4 was a reach

Agreed.

Seeing what Oshie got, and reading that people aren't very interested in Kane makes me wonder if he would re-sign at his current amount or less, it might not be an awful idea.

Unless he really is awful for the locker room and Pegula still wants him out.

If no one is that interested now, who's giving him 6-7 mil in a year?

- sbroads24

Are you going by the anonymous exec as part of the basis for saying people aren't very interested in Kane?

I don't believe for a second that teams aren't interested in Kane. I think they definitely are, but just like us, they know he's a UFA next offseason and he will be expecting a long term deal.

I believe teams are calling GMJB for Kane, but they are trying to see how little they have to give up to get him, which is what likely happens with soon to be UFA's.

Listen, all I said was why take a dman at 8 when for months now it's been said countless times that we need to address the defense and then we pick another center, just like it was brought up by many on here before the draft that last year we needed a D man and we drafted Nylander. But now i'm wrong.

Last night after we made the pick at 8 some were complaining about the pick and mentioned why draft a center at 8 and after that people were posting GIF's of Middlestad struggling to do push ups and folks were making fun of him, also had some other things to say about him. Nothing was said about that.

So today I posted what was my opinion and now people are jumping all over me about it but have no issues as what was being said last night, just jumping on me for my opinion.

I asked another poster if he was serious ( won't say the posters name because he isn't here as of now ) about Fasching, Nylander, Bailey and Babtiste playing, I told him Fasching is a nothing player you can tell by his AHL numbers like many here have posted about him, Nylander isn't ready we can all see that, Bylsma or no Bylsma and I said IMO Bailey and Babtiste are not top 6 players now and we would get eaten up by other teams. Was my opinion and now i'm getting attacked for saying we should have drafted a D man like everyone has been saying for months now, people here, the media and within the Sabres.

They're right to go bpa but it means they should start looking at moving one of nylander/mittelstadt/reinhart for a d-man over the next year or so.
- Sabresfan-365

I understand bpa theory
But the issue with that is defensive prospects, or young defensemen in general, are worth more than their counterparts talent wise at other positions

That's why we end up swing trades like Larson for Hall

For example...
Sergachev just got traded for Drouin
Do u think we could've gotten Drouin for Nylander?
Doubtful

Young defense just has more value

in general yes i agree which is why i wanted them to trade down but if you stay at your current pick thats the move, especially in the top 10. its just unfortunate past two years the consensus at our pick has been forward (more so this year than last). Its why i want them drafting high next year. While its possible they may not hit their ceilings, in general that class of defencemen looks far better than the last two years.

makes sense. i think they'll give him till TDL to

a) see how he works with housley
b) lower his demands if they are in fact really high

I'm really curious to see if they give reinhart an extension this summer, mostly because it would be really telling

I'm definitely not expecting this team to be the #1 PP in the league next year. The guy who coached that out of them is gone. If they end up being a top 10 PP, I will be pleased.

Hopefully the coaching change won't affect too much

If the reports are true about him being awful in the room, I doubt there is much serious interest

I mean, it's not like he didn't get run out of the WPG room before he came here. The benefit of the doubt went out the window then

McAvoy would've been a "reach" at 8 last year, right?
But how would that have worked out?

There's usually not much talent difference between 8-15

And it's really not that Nylander or Mittelstadt are bad picks
They aren't

It's just that we are woefully devoid of defensemen prospects & continue to ignore the position in the 1st & 2nd
Not that u can't find & develop guys in later rounds,
but it obviously doesn't happen as often

Those reports were from his Winnipeg days though, right?

I haven't heard anything about him being a problem here

I don't think it was last year at all
Sergachev or Chychrun wouldn't have been considered a reach by any means

no but if iirc correctly a fair amount of people had a forward as bpa at 8, thats what i was trying to get at

But even if Nylander was ranked 8, Sergachev 9 & Chychrun 12...
was there really any talent level difference?

And like i said before...
Sergachev had more value

He just got Drouin
I doubt if Nylander would've

So taking "bpa" isn't always the best idea

What I'm trying to say is that "bpa" doesn't necessarily equal best value

There was definitely a case to be made to move back. I'm not sure what kind of return we could've expected to drop down, say, ten spots? A lower first and a second at best, I'd guess. In whats widely believed to be a shallow draft, I'm not sure if that's good enough.

I've talked myself into ye olde "He was too good to pass up at that spot." Lets just hope it pans out.

I was on record saying I'd want Tippett or Liljegren at that slot, so what the hell do I know?
Mitzy's highlights sure made him look like a stud, but thats sorta what they're designed to do.

And even fine with Mittelstadt

But we should've went denfense in the 2nd rounds then

Right
But from what I saw it looked like he was referencing Kane 's locker room stuff from back in his Winnipeg days
