Probably with Stajan and Lazar.

I think both Stone and Johnson are locks, but I kinda hope not BT hasn't had much success when it comes to free agent signings in my opinion. He should stick to what he's good at, trading!

At this point the only way I see it is if he signs a right shot forward ...but until we see where we are cap wise after RFA signings its hard to say

How about Brian Boyle? Not sure there's really a fit there other than size and the fact he's really good in the face off circle.

Johnny Money ferland
3m line
Boyle Bennett jankowski
Stajan lazar Brouwer

Stone would be a mistake unless he's willing to sign for less than 3 million or he's only signing for a year. You can't be spending that much money on an insurance policy.

Did anyone ever figure out if the Flames still have to give up a draft pick if they sign Elliott as a UFA? I can't see anyone signing him as a starter and can't think of anyone who would be a better backup.

I'd rather see Klimchuk over either of them.

I would like to see klimchuk but versteeg was really good for us last year and helped the top line PP ...but at some point you need to give the guy a chance

Resigning Versteeg wouldn't be awful, but only if they were planning on using him as a healthy scratch with Stajan.

Versteeg showed he's still got it
speed and hands...was a huge part of entering the zone...Klimchuk hasn't proven anything...middling numbers in the AHL and suddenly you think he can be a mainstay on the big team?

Versteeg is a completely one dimensional player. Klimchuk plays a much more complete game than Versteeg and isn't going to gain much more playing another year in the AHL. The potential upside of Klimchuk vs Versteeg isn't even close.

If they'd rather have Versteeg than Klimchuk at this point, they should probably try and ship him out for whatever they can get.

I think it all depends on how much he will cost ...if he will do the same contract as last year than yes sign me up ...but that is very doubtful

So Bennett, Ferland and Lazar have very similar numbers in the 3 years they have been in the league.

Sam Bennett

GP 159 G 31 A 32

Ferland

GP 173 G 21 A 27

Lazar

GP 180 G 13 A 26

I assume BT will sign Bennett first in order to establish a line in the sand for Ferland and Lazar.

Maybe 2.5 for Bennett and 1.5 for Ferland and 1.25 for Lazar?

Lazar could be around that
Ferland will get more I think

As for Bennett I would try to ink him to a longer term at like 3-3.5 per for 5-8 years
He probably won't go for that as a bridge with hopes of having a breakout is probably his hope

Yeah, for sure, there is zero chance he signs for 5-8 years at that number.

Bennett will bridge and try to lever himself in future negotiations.

Agreed that I think Ferland gets a little more, but the term will be very short.

Im scared this will be like the JayBo acquisition.... At that time he was the marquee dman available. And not saying he was bad, but I don't think he lived up to expectations.
Since then, I've always been worried about the transition for dmen in the east moving west.
Luckily Hamilton has been ok, even though it took some time to adjust.

Hoping Hamonic is worth the picks

Huh? Please share your metric on what "good" is...

Hamilton has been ok?? yea sure he took a 1/4 season to adjust but he's bettered his numbers and skills each year since arriving. And, uh, top 10 in D scoring with a top 10 in Norris voting. Yea, he's been OK

sorry I didn't mean his play, but I mean the trade has worked out
haha I love Hamilton...at his age and putting up the points he has, he's the guy I brag about to my Oiler pals (given the cost was similar to what they paid for Reinhart)

I'm still hesitant about Hamonic and will be until I see how he gels on this team and how much we improve next year

Dude....enough with the Klimchuk. He hasn't even played an NHL game and you're saying he's way better than Versteeg haha.

I also like how Versteeg's a bit of a grease ball. I would bring him back in a heartbeat.

Sam Gagner could be a nice fit too! Although the Flames need some bite on their bottom 6.
