very remnant of the Leafs Phil kessel trade a few years ago. could pay off depending on how those picks shape up (2nd over all and then some for I believe tyler Segiun... that hurts)
Only thing is staff feels like they actually have a solid Goaltender, and he is purely a gamble right now. good D is important, and can make a mediocre goalie shine, so lets hope that's the case! - MMFlames

This is nothing like the Kessel trade the Leafs did with Boston. That trade was for two 1st's and a 2nd. Considering the Flames are coming off a season where they made the playoffs and have to be planning to improve, where as the Leafs came off an under 500 season where they were the 7th worst team in the league. The Flames have more comfortability as to where the picks they are giving up will actually fall. While the leafs couldn't really do so then.
The Bruins drafted Seguin and Dougie Hamilton with those 1st rounders, and in part won a cup because of it.
This trade is no where near that level of blunder that the Leafs made.

Im scared this will be like the JayBo acquisition.... At that time he was the marquee dman available. And not saying he was bad, but I don't think he lived up to expectations.
Since then, I've always been worried about the transition for dmen in the east moving west.
Luckily Hamilton has been ok, even though it took some time to adjust.
Hoping Hamonic is worth the picks

The thing is that j bo and TH are basically total opposites in terms of ability and game style ...and j bo was brought in to be a top pairing shutdown guy who can produce points even though he never was that in Florida ...and harmonic is brought in to be a top 4 guy to play with Brodie |

I know what your about to go through! Stay strong Man!
So question for everyone all though free agency has never been BT's strong suit is there anyone out there that he could be targeting beyond the Chad Johnson and Stone?
Any diamonds in the ruff?
I don't see an answer for our top line RW delama in free agency! |

I don't consider our top line RW to be a dilemma ...would I like an upgrade yes ...but has ferland done enough on that line for me to accept him starting there ...also yes
Sounds like both the flames and stones agent have mentioned he still might return ...although he played well with Brodie...how will he do with a lesser partner on the 3rd pairing |

Would you take a shot with Beau Bennett? |

25 year old winger who has never scored 10 goals in a season ...sure he can play on stajans wing |

Question ...is johnny not capable of playing the right side ....how bout Bennett ?
If janko can in fact handle the 3C position can we not try lines like this :
Bennett/johnny monahan Bennett/johnny
Tkachuk backs frolik
Versteeg janko ferland
Lazar Stajan Brouwer
You could even swap lazar and janko if he isn't ready for 3C
I dunno ...I just think that those 3 working out on a top line would be what we need to truly enter the convo with top teams |

Jbo was never utilized properly. Since being in st Louis him and Pietrangelo have been one of the best pairs in the league. Poor coaches try and force players to play to their system. Just look at ovie. Nothing wrong with trying to better round out your game, but when it starts to take away from your natural abilities and instincts it becomes a problem. I think Gully is a good coach, and will use hammer to his abilities. I think it will be good for him and tj. They seem like a natural fit. |

J bo was a very offensive minded D man with a weak defensive game who was brought in and Paid to be a legit #1 guy ...forced to try and shutdown opposition ..which he couldn't do ...pretty much his whole term in Calgary he gave up his offensive game to work on his defensive side ...by his last year I could see the player he was in St.louis starting to emerge |

I said this many times last year only to be shot down. They should at least try it on the top pp unit to see if they can build some chemistry!

To me at this point of you want Bennett to be more than a 3rd liner you have to put him in a position to succeed ...and I believe that he has all the tools to play on that line
I'm still not opposed to ferland there though ...but would like a more skilled player on that line |

They'll at least start the season with Bennett playing with Brouwer again. They'll need both of them playing well if they want to compete for the division, and they looked alright playing together before Brouwer's injury last year. Maybe try Klimchuk with them. |

Johnny played the right side on the power play at WJHC-U20 and looked fantastic. He also played RW on our power play at the start of last season/during preseason with mixed results. So yeah, Gulu and co. have looked at it and personally I think he looks more dangerous on that side.
Limits his game being on his off hand in corner battles though. They had to shift him back after the power play got figured out and went cold.

Thanks ! Good to know
I think they really need to try more scenarios with Bennett in the top 6 as long as we have someone fill the 3C role |

Flames would be lucky if one of those pics eventually turned out to be Hamonic.....problem is drafting D men is hard and the Flames window will be in the next 5 years. Glad Tre had the balls to make this move. Now sign Stone for the 3rd pairing and let's get the season rolling!
Also....let Ferland play 1rw. That line was fine once it got rolling. Need a better bottom 6. Bigger faster tougher stronger! |
