That price was hiiigh.

We don't have a 2nd for the next three years.

The price was high because other teams wanted him. The value is still there & we can get picks back anytime. We have had a few years of lots of picks & have some decent prospects that don't seem to be getting that chance. Sometimes you have to give these guys some time to flourish. Our prospect cupboard is pretty good. We can afford this.

Tyler Wotherspoon is the only guy from the 2011 draft left that you guys could have. I guess we'd be willing to give him up for a 2nd

Yup & I think Kulak is one of the bottom pair, thank you Vegas & Wotherspoon & Andersson will probably battle for the other spot. I like it!

Just think, both Brodie & Hamonic are the same age, have 3 years left on bargain deals & will be 29 when their contracts come up. If in the next 2 years Kylington & Andersson rock it, we will have teams lining up to trade for Brodiee or Hamonic or even giving us a top5 pick + other assets for Kylington or Andersson. & we can do that knowing Fox & Valimaki are close behind & pushing for a roster spot.

He'll be playing bottom pairing minutes in the AHL next year. (frank), I would've put him down there last year

What do you think about Radulov for 1RW? Looks like we have about 15 mil in cap space this year and really only need to sign a backup.

Also, he's russian. We don't really have things that would interest him. (nightlife & other Russian players).

Probably stays with Montreal or goes to New York or something.

Simmonds, JVR & Neal would be 3 guys I'd be interested in targeting.

Marleau might be an interesting UFA target at the right price.

Y'all remember when he was supposed to be the prize (ok, maybe the 1st round pick was the real prize, but still...) in package we got back in the Iginla trade to Boston that never happened? Good times.

I really like this deal. Gives the Flames one hell of a top 4.
Put it to you this way; Flames gave a second more for a 3/4 guy signed on a great contract than the Oilers gave for a scrub named Reinhart

I would be fine with Marleau if Brouwer could get buried. Plus you can't go wrong with Marleau's smile

I am hoping he has a bounce back season and has prime shooting spot on the PP. Might be able to unload him if he can show he was the player he was in his days with St. Loius. But that is pretty unlikely.

I have absolutely no problem with the price paid. People were talking 1st and Kylington, or 1st and Fox. Some even suggested 1st and Rass. So basically this is two 2nds instead of a almost ready, higher end, or very promising defensive prospect. Keep in mind one of those 2nds is either 2 or 3 years away too, plenty of time to recuperate that pick. And they got a 4th back as well, which can be more of a crap shoot, but remember that Gaudreau and Brodie came out of the 4th round. And the prospect cupboards are still as full as they were before, with players ready or close to ready to step in.

People who say "well what if they don't make the playoffs". The second this team, that was a playoff team, starts to plan ahead around the idea of "if we don't make the playoffs" then they have already lost. They are, and should be, planning around an improvement next year. Which pushes all those picks lower and lower and makes them less valuable.

They got a 26 year old, right shooting, legitimate top 4, bigger shot down defenseman (a style of play this team was lacking), that has 3 more years at an absolute steal of a contract. Sounds like the kind of guy that every team, except maybe Nashville, is always looking for. This gives them at worst the 3rd best top 4 in the league?

Get some guys resigned (Bennett, Ferland, Kulak). Buy out Bouma (I can always hope), then I figure they will have about 6 mil of space to maybe go after a RW upgrade.

I say so far Treliving has done a great job this off season to make this team much improved next season.

Hamilton was an outright steal & don't expect that to happen too often.
I'm ok with this deal. That was a pretty boring draft last night. No one was interested in making moves because it just a perceived weaker draft. Islanders weren't interested in the 2017 1st. I think Tre pulled the trigger on this because Stone was probably looking for more money & longer term than what Hamonic brings. This doesn't remind me of Sutter days at all. There were a lot of teams in on Hamonic. Value is there. Sutter used to bring in these old star players all the time, Tre doesn't. I love what we have in our top 4, & the minutes both pairings can eat up means we can give our young guys 8-10 minutes to cut their teeth next year. Im ok with this deal, didn't have to give up Bennett or any of our young bluechip dmen on the farm.

Love this deal. Absolutely love it. It was a pretty high price but that's what happens when other teams are in in on him. We're pretry well stocked on prospects right now and we lost none of them, and we don't need the picks as much because of it.

I've seen some people comparing this to the Dougie deal, and I see why because they are similar deals. But people have to realize that the Hamonic deal isn't bad, it's just that the Dougie deal was robbery. We paid a high price for Hamonic, but we also have a top 3 at worst defensive core for the next 3 years because we now have him. That is well worth the price in my eyes.

Tre's already solved two of our three bug concerns, and in the correct order. All we need to try and find now is a 1RW and we're golden.

very remnant of the Leafs Phil kessel trade a few years ago. could pay off depending on how those picks shape up (2nd over all and then some for I believe tyler Segiun... that hurts)

Only thing is staff feels like they actually have a solid Goaltender, and he is purely a gamble right now. good D is important, and can make a mediocre goalie shine, so lets hope that's the case!
