Can play either wing (RW is his natural position), skates well, above average shot, very quick hands, likes to get the puck on his stick down low near the opposing goalie, needs to improve defensively but is only 18 so he has time to work on that area of his game. Overall I like the pick, the kid has skill. - Dabearshawks

Having skill does not mean they are not tough as well. These are kids. They need time to grow, acclimate, gain strength. Look at Debrincat. Small, rediculous skill and fearless. - z1990z

Haven't heard the BS there vs The PEG, but then again, I wasn't looking for it. So the trade to BUF straightened him out a bit? - blackhawk24
I think he has. When I watched the Hawks/Buff game last year, Evander was very noticeable. Very strong on the puck and hustled on D.

From the perspective of teams playing you, it doesn't even seem close. If you ignore contracts, ignore how good they'll be and if they'll be playing for the Hawks in 3 years, and are just talking about the people who will be on the ice next season, wouldn't most Hawks fans agree:
Hossa, Panarin, Kruger > Saad, Dauphin
Hjalmarsson, TVR > Murphy
Darlng > Forberg
I understand Hawks fans being happy with the moves, some of your loses were out of your control and happening regardless. But right now, Hawks look significantly weaker than last years team, and just made a bunch of rebuild on the fly type moves that set them up for down the road. - Antilles
If only it was that simple, it's not. Playing styles, added speed and size. And the Hawks aren't done. So keep posting the equations. Gotta wait to really judge. |

Its all about balance on the lines. Its easier to find big/fast guys who can hit but dont contribute much in regards to scoring. Skill still wins, but you need balance as well. |

He's potentially a stud. I don't see anything happening. Hawks still have cap issues and are a weaker team today than yesterday. This will drag into the summer as Hawks will have 5+ million to work with based on Hossa going on LTIR. Plus the Kruger move. Lots of moving pieces, but a wing lineup of
Kane/Kane/Saad/Panik/Hartman is pretty damn good. Even if Schmaltz plays L2-C (if AA was moved for EK) I still think we need a dependable, faceoff proven L3-C. Give me E.Kane, that L3-C, and another D-man while losing only AA off main roster then I think we'd be damn close. |

Maybe never know. Sounds to me like then all on AA is in at least one other team's court. Also possible Kruger not moving but I need to dig on that more. |

IQ, IQ, IQ and plays center. Like this kid but would have been ok with Dman Farrance who went two pick later. Out of the NTDP..... |

Way too early to judge. I know you gotta feel good thinking the 'Hawks are done. However....we are not even through the draft. And FA begins in almost exactly one week. Concentrate on the Blues and think how your guys can just get to the WCF. |

Right on, Wolfie. Nice pick. - Mr Ricochet
Great pick. He has the tools to be a terrific center, with one exception....I don't think he's strong enough down low and isn't terribly physical. Maybe a poor man's Schmaltz? Tremendous vision, passer, works hard on D....maybe a year or two at Penn State he'll fill out, gain some strength and you have a player.
Penn State is a rising (maybe risen) hockey program. and Barrett was a highly regarded recruit there (with several other kids). |

Wolfie, watch Jack Badini who went to ANA. Kid was skipped over last year but really came on this year. A center with speed, and a real 3 zone game. .....Love this kid. Wasn't ranked on CSS and goes in the 3rd. Off to Harvard. |

Smart silky player off to Penn State who plays a hair on fire system. ....... 3-4 years out this kid has a real chance. .......Solid analysis, Wolfie. |

Watched him all year with the Steel, who had Mirages and Walsh go already. Cup winning team......... Yea man, passed over last year and not ranked by CSS and goes in the 3rd!! Skunked is a great description....... I'm a fan of this kid. Great at the dot, top end speed, PK, PP and plays center, cup winner. |

Yea. I get a chance to learn about PA kids, some I can go watch (saw Mario's kid play, meh....and I've seen Alex at erie a time or two) and others I just know about. Being PSU kid I got to learn about him a bit as I do follow that program.

What's the opinion on the Jets second rounder (#43), Dylan Samberg? 18, 6-3, 211 LH-D. Looks to fit the mold of the Jets and where I'd like to see the 'Hawks more often. |
