Goaltending weaker. Less scoring. Defence weaker. Tougher and harder to play against. You think that adds up to being better? No wonder your coach walked out.

Wow... just wow. How many Cups have the Preds won??? Oh wait... ZERO

I don't agree, thought the Schenn trade sucked for them. No way you can say over the last 12 months the Blows got better
- vabeachbear

Lehtera was a ghost most of the year. Sitting in press box for games at a couple points. Contract given to him last year was a mistake. Basically paying to fix that. Player for Player Schenn is better, extra pick thrown in for contract. So near term team is in better spot than it was.

Your analysis spot on. Also, this trade from Phoenix standpoint is a lot about what hammer means to them if they can put even two good defense pairs out. This in turn makes them better 5 on 5. This in turn helps prospects get more touches. Helps boost confidance. Excites fans who see a better cohesive team.on ice than last year.

It does not lower the price of your beverage of choice while watching them play. That is not a controlled cost. It always goes up

Hawks take their usual obscure 3rd round Russian.

Wiz doesn't even have him as a draft pick..................

He put up good numbers this past season. You just never know. I like the back to back picks on D. Need to re-stock that shelf.

On E.Kane to Tuke17, can the team weather the BS which comes with this kid? Wonder if Chevy would shed some light on this from E.Kane's days in The PEG.
- blackhawk24[/quote

If a decent deal can be made, and I think one can be involving AA; I think he would do ok in Chicago for 1 year. A chance to play with elite talent and an opportunity to win a cup as well as a locker room full of strong leadership may be enough to keep him on the straight and narrow. P. Kane had VERY similar issues off the ice and seems to have matured so he may be a big help in that area as well. IIRC, E. Kane has a 3.75 hit this year so I can see Stan being able to fit him.

I think the potential benifit is far greater than the possible BS that may come of it. If it does end up going pear shape it's only a 1 year deal. If it works, the Hawks would be a very formidable opponent.

Either way, JJ would have loads of blog topics to pick from!

Yes, my initial knee-jerk reaction was a Blue overpay. But then read some posts about the trade through the optics of ridding themselves of the Lehtera contract. Makes more sense - and most Hawks fans know all about making uneven trades to dump a contract.

EK has quieted down and simply played in Buffalo. He is a true power forward type. Would be worth a shot to try and land him.

Can play either wing (RW is his natural position), skates well, above average shot, very quick hands, likes to get the puck on his stick down low near the opposing goalie, needs to improve defensively but is only 18 so he has time to work on that area of his game. Overall I like the pick, the kid has skill.

Through first three choices in the draft Blackhawks have drafted for skill and not size and or toughness. None are close to NHL ready.

They have the high end skill skate Krys on defense at either in Hockey East. Lots of skill in d prospects but only so many E Karlson and OEL.

Snuggerud a smallish young kid dropped out of college, (it appears) to turn pro. You know they have a skill guy un Dahlgren too sirt if sift plat but fluud smooth defender. There is the other swede at Rockford last year plus resigned R Press. L Carlsson impressed in mature development in Sweden.

They have enough d prospects for two teams

Haven't heard the BS there vs The PEG, but then again, I wasn't looking for it. So the trade to BUF straightened him out a bit?

Having skill does not mean they are not tough as well. These are kids. They need time to grow, acclimate, gain strength. Look at Debrincat. Small, rediculous skill and fearless.

Are the Hawks a better team this morning, probably not.

From the perspective of teams playing you, it doesn't even seem close. If you ignore contracts, ignore how good they'll be and if they'll be playing for the Hawks in 3 years, and are just talking about the people who will be on the ice next season, wouldn't most Hawks fans agree:

Hossa, Panarin, Kruger > Saad, Dauphin
Hjalmarsson, TVR > Murphy
Darlng > Forberg

I understand Hawks fans being happy with the moves, some of your loses were out of your control and happening regardless. But right now, Hawks look significantly weaker than last years team, and just made a bunch of rebuild on the fly type moves that set them up for down the road.
