Oh darn.

Cya Jurco

Neither of us are Jurco fans, but since Stan has already paid the price to acquire him we might as well try him out for a full season.

I really don't want to.

Wonder who the AGM these days? Could be time for a power move.

--You aren't replacing what Hossa gave you on or off the ice. That's just all understand that. Can't do anything about his skin disorder and I wish 81 the best. Greatest two way forward I ever saw play, and arguably the classiest person to play for the Hawks. Never heard squat about this guy complaining, etc. First class individual.

--Don't like the Hammer deal. You just gave up your BEST defensive defensemen and replaced him with size and a hope that a new change of scenery works for him. He was horrid in Arizona. Younger, cheaper....great but will be Johnny Oduya 2.0 or David Rundblad 2.0? Now you have Keith, Seabrook and 4 guys you wish and hope develop......that's a LOT to ask for a coaching staff to deal with...Frolsing, Ratta, Kempny, Murphy are ALL projects. No doubting that.

--Don't mind the Saad deal. No question here they missed his presence and the fact you have to trade to get a 1 lw and steal from your best offensive asset to help 19 get going....is disappointing. Your projected top 6 of 14-19-20 and 8-15-88 is nothing to be overly excited for.

I view these moves as long term cost cutting moves due to term and clauses given out that basically pigeon holed the organization.

It's still early in the offseason but A LOT less left to be done....Saad vs Panarin is more of a lateral move....Panarin better skilled player, Saad more complete of a 200 ft player.....No question 4 is 100 times the player Murphy is. So as of no you are a weaker team then April, again.......very early in the offseason with I'm sure moves to be made via trades as I dont' see the cap space to sign anyone worth a hoot if the plan is to place Hossa on LTIR after season begins.

Younger, bigger....no question.......better? NO.

- SteveRain

Hey Rainman...no question 81 cannot be replaced...still pretty bummed about this situation...he's a statesman for the team and the league. One of the best if not the best two player I've ever watched play...and yet because Hossa's a wing he doesn't get Selke consideration...pathetic.

I love the Saad move, after Bowman's summer of suck 2015 at least he's righted the ship on that one. At the same time with 19s cap hit Toews should be carrying whoever plays with him like Kane does.

Meanwhile if you're trying to win this season no way do I move Hammer. Hammer was moved because of the NMCs Stan handed out along the way to the rest of the core - including the Seabrook contract...or Crawford's NMC...which has cost Stan twice. I think the brass would have loved to keep Darling here - local kid, great story...don't get me wrong CC is a stellar goalie - top notch...but the cap is the cap...

I'm hopeful Murphy will take the next step...but we'll see what happens.

Lot of work to do yet...Anisimov and Krugs next...?

Panarin is not weak! He's very strong for his build, also he didn't have attitude problems in fact he was one of the most liked players in the Hawks lockeroom. He would show up at practice early and sometimes stay late to workout.
- Dabearshawks

Exactly- Panarin in no way is a weakling -and in fact, quite the contrary- I think the kid is a load for his build. I remember his first pre-season game when that giant D guy on D was draped all over him like a bad trench coat -and Panarin was battling back -and that guy could not move him to save his life. It was awesome.

People that think Panarin was simply a one timer guy for Kane will find out they were wrong (they were wrong if they watched the games he has already played in too - but whatever).

That kid always struck me as one of the hardest working players in hockey ... am going to be proud to wear his number on my team (grr - if our jersey order ever arrives :D ).

He needs to make Bob over there give him his number... 72 is NOT a goalie number :D.

It was never about money to him. His struggles and then all of a sudden hitting his bonuses was just coincidence. There was a lot of stuff going on during the season with him personally and I think it affected his play at times. I'm not at liberty to say what those things were but it was stuff that's hard to ignore.
- Dabearshawks

Personally, I have no issues or concerns with Panarin. He's a star and I wish him all the best in Columbus. Saad is a star too, I think he's just a better fit with the Hawks for what they need right now, especially with Hossa out.

The Blackhawks become stronger on the PK, 5 on 5 and weaker on the PP with this deal. Overall it's a win for Chicago based on their circumstance, but Columbus will benefit from this deal too. Maybe the deal is more of a win/win.

Panarin worked so very hard he got all "tired". Apparently, flying out of North America, immediately each spring, rejuvenated him just in time to play for Russia. Who needs to speak English anyway? Panarin was not popular - that is why he is gone. Toews and Kane wanted Saad back and had to know Panarin would go. Panarin is an uni-dimensional player and he'll mesh with Torts like oil and water.

JJ what do you see happening with the Hawks? Do you think they are looking to send AA as part of a package to land a L2 or are they looking to add another D man?

Do you think Kruger is still on the move?

- scott.jackson

Heard yesterday, Kruger still probably moving, but not clear where, heard separately last night to GVK still a done deal. So it's still not completely clear but I would say 90% certainty, GVK, for a pick, likely after the bonus is paid

One has to think that the stockpiling of young RHD means:

1) Hawks may be deal Seabrook at some point this offseason (unlikely)
or
2) Hawks already have some sweetheart deals lined up for Campbell and Oduya.

- phantasmo

I think it means either they see Forsling and Kempny as holding down the left side, with Keith for the next several seasons, they felt better about their left side prospect depth and or they just saw better value where they picked on the right side, could be all of the above.

Caps need a shake up too. They haven't done anything yet.

Have a buddy that called Panarin trade , he says AA is getting a ton of attention . Hawks wanna keep him but deals might end up being too good to pass up. If AA gets moved it'll be before 7.1

Doesn't Kempny on a one year deal concern you? I look at the operational psychology of being in my bosses dog house (Q). What would I do? I would find a new job where my talents are a bit more appreciated. I know the grass is not greener, as an example playing for Torts you may need to pack Arse tweezers. Also as ACGM's we do not know how Hammer being shipped out played on the psyche of the younger players.

So if they do trade AA doesn't that put the Hawks pretty thin at C? Who would be their 2-3-4?

Do you think having a playmaking center as opposed to a playmaking RW will be better for him?

I would expect Schmaltz to get the first crack at the #2 C spot. Kero/Dauphin and maybe Moose if he signs can battle it out for the 3/4 C positions. Kane has proven he can work with just about anybody as his C.

Yes I think so. When he's played with Ship you can see the difference (granted they haven't played together in the NHL.) Last season teams quickly realized if Kane and Panarin were on the ice together chances were you'd see a cross ice pass for a one timer and it became something that was defended well more often than not. Playing with Ship who has elite vision and passing ability as a center made it hard for opposing teams to defend because if they covered Panarin, Ship could score himself or pass to Dadonov and vice versa.
