You and I couldn't possibly know whether or not Schenn could improve. I keep hearing how weak a draft this is, so tell me what's the difference between now and next year?
- SuperSchennBros

It is extremely unlikely that an NHL forward, who has been in the league for 6 years will make any substantial improvement at age 26 in year 7. Is it impossible? No, but it is a near sure thing.

It's a weak draft when it comes to quantity and that it lacks a true franchise player at the top, but most scouts feel that there are 40-50 very good players in this draft and we've taken 3 of them. Also, don't discount the importance of getting the Blues 2018 1st, most scouts are in love with next years draft class.

Schenn has only improved his offensive numbers since being I never the league but the weight of the team doesn't fall solely on him.

When we trade some Scott Hartnell and gained RJ Umberger, we've looked bad ever since. This was three years ago. Schenn for Lehtera is the same thing except we squeezed a first out of it. WE were saying the same things three years ago as we are now.

Could you imagine if St. Louis 1st round pick somehow ends up drafting Jack Huges in 2019...

Would Penguin fans call the NHL rigged?

And this is why I would have traded Schenn in a year from now. The Fans deserve some steps forward. We shouldn't count out the playoffs just because...

They've been in a rebuild mode since Hextall took the job. He's been consistent in the moves he's been making and I think he has the team moving in the right direction to be a contender for quite awhile probably starting in the 19-20 season.

Hey, if you disagree that's cool. I'm not trying to change your mind, nor are you going to change mine. Believe whatever you wish.

I wouldn't sweat it -- the Blues are gonna be just fine. I fully expect that pick to be in the 20s. They aren't gonna fall off a cliff. They have a bunch of really good players. They're not all of a sudden going to fall into the lottery

It's just not going to happen

Hextall going full rebuild.

G and V are around but it's obvious the plan is purely about the future. I know it's a long way out but the promise land is coming.

I think it's clear that Hexy wants to build this team with his own "core". He wants his own stable of young guns to grow and learn together. Not that players like Schenn can't/couldn't be contributers.

I really believe that the 2nd overall pick changed things. If Nolan and Lindblom step seamlessly into the NHL and Frost develops into an NHL'er one day then this trade is a slam dunk in my opinion

We have four bad contracts and we took a young player from the top six.

I'm cool with G and V still being here. Giroux is still a force on the PP, in fact he's one of the most dominant pp guys in the league and he's also still one of the best faceoff men in the league as well. I don't think he'll ever put up the numbers he was putting up 3-4 years ago again, but he can still be a very effective player for a few more years. Jake is one of the few guys on this team that puts up quality numbers at ES and has the kind of build and is the kind of skater that usually allows a guy to still be a pretty good player into their early 30's.

2 to 3 seasons from now is why the deal was made. They weren't going to contend for a Cup in 17-18 nor, in most likelihood 18-19 with or without Brayden Schenn, but his value, right now, was probably as high as it was going to be. It was absolutely the right time to move him.
- BimoggE

So when will be the right time to move jake or clode?

This team is at least 3/4 years away from being a cup contender.

I love it.

I am a big G fan, but it's more and more obvious the current guys wouldn't have enough left by the time the D prospects are ready. He is setting the club up nicely. I'm a fan.

Ratcliffe? Wow. I'm excited to see how he develops. Kid could be a stud!

I do however recall some of you guys pooping all over him when he was originally rated higher and it looked like we were picking 13th.

I personally don't see anyone trading 2 1st round picks for Brayden Schenn ever. The deal sounds like it was a last minute thing and Hextall took it and ran.

What if Schenn has a bad year or an injury that limits his playing time. Most likely this was the highest value Schenn would have in his career, why hold onto someone who is nice to have, but not a make or break for a team?

Yup. You will never get more value in a trade for G or V, when compared to playing them.

We shall see what happens with Simmonds but this is a full rebuild under Hextall any way you look at it. Thank the (frank)ing lord.

4 bad contracts? They only have one bad contract, and that's AMac and mainly due to the 3rd year. The others are all for only 1 or 2 years (Fip, Read, Lehtera) or small enough cap hits to not be a big deal (Weise).
