Bill I know how much you and I love the Flyers but trading a top six forward with some grit in his prime will set the Flyers back for a couple years and Schenn is just approaching his prime. Look for 65 points in St. Louis and a lock for top six. Lehtara on the other hand is a cull. Third line player that is either injured or inconsistent. The draft picks are nice but what are you going to get at around 20 and higher. The Blues will not be at the bottom of the league so the pick is not going to be elite unless a miracle takes place and with Hextall running the show there is no chance. I hate this move and would trade Giroux before I trade Schenn, based on work ethic alone. Who is going to get all those pp goals now?? Oh wait Cousins is gone and the there will only be a few pp opportunities now, lol Flyers management is right on par with Benning and that corndog in Edmonton.

Rags hire Lindy Ruff as assistant coach. Hmm, it is possible to hate them more.

It will set them back in the short term. That's what this is about. Hextall is going full rebuild. I love it.
- flyer_nutter

Full rebuild should have meant dog facker Giroux is gone, not Schenn who has not ever reached his prime. Hextall is clearly a very lousy GM and tell me where is the number one goalie coming from, if it is Dallas I will be so pizzed! Mason is still the best fa goalie out there.

This is true Glak18, oh here come Elliot to take over for Mason, lol Mason still the best fa goalie out there. Hextall should have fired Hakstol last year, no other GM would put up with losing that bad and bonehead coaching decisions.

Schenn was never really embraced here by Hexy. Even when he gave him that contract it seemed like he wasn't happy about it. Not sure he was really the type of player that they were looking for in that fit. I'm sure they loved his pp position but the rest was meh. He was only 25 though and had a nose for the net. But I'm with Hexy on this one. Think two firsts and a possible 3rd was a pretty nice haul. The pick up contract is not a long one. Only time will tell.

I was in favour of trading G last year. More I think about it they will never get anything close to full value for him. Same with V. So you may as well keep them and hope to bridge one core with the other.

I'm down with the current plan. Having so much dead money in sub par players blows but their deals are done soon enough. Don't think you get 2 firsts unless you take back Lehtera.

Flyers have been low key rebuildingm for a while now.

Giroux (Career High 93 points @ 24 years old)
Schenn (Career High 59 points @ 24 years old)

BAD year for Giroux with 58 points @ 29 years old

Damn Dog facker

NMC so Giroux is not going anywhere unless he approves and that contract makes it extremely hard to trade. Hextall took over a very flawed organization with a lame prospect pool. he's moved out bad contracts and has built the prospect pool into one of the better in the NHL. Like it or not, Hextall is building for the long run. the list of prospects is deep and while I am sorry to see Schenn go and understand it could mean a step back, I am excited to see more of Konecny, hopefully Weal, Lindblom, Patrick and maybe Vecchione and Laughton. I'm excited at the thought of seeing Morin, Hagg, Sanheim and Myers over the next 2 years. the group of goalies coming along is exciting. I get the knee jerk reaction but this is about the long run

The goaltending cannot be Neuvirth and Stolarz. Or Elliot/Niemi/Lehtonen. I see what he is doing and fully agree with the rebuild.

Whether they have the right coach for that is my main concern if I had one.

It will be interesting to see what grade the Flyers are given for this draft. I think Frost/Ratcliffe evened itself out with people thinking Frost went too early. The really interesting picks to me are the goalie (who they absolutely went off the board for despite having great numbers) and Strome, who should definitely be considered a project pick.

Yeah Schenn was for the low first and the conditional 1 for taking Lehtera.

the goaltending short term isn't going to make anyone happy I'm sure. Praying one or two of the kids end up being a franchise goalie

I think they could make a move for Mrazek still. The bridge between Mrazek and the Wings is clearly burned.

The 4th was the most interesting one for me with Strome and Sushko. Although I will be watching Ustimenko (sp?) a bit more now.

I have to say Hexy is crushing it IMO. We cried for a change in approach to building this team and now we got it. Some seemed to want the quicker way but I feel that hasn't worked. In the future we will always have to move out core pieces and replace them with younger cheaper pieces in the Cap world. This won't be the first time we have to send away a useable player.

Hart has tons of potential and loved the pick, but my money is still on Sandstrom.

EDIT: Although if we have the luck Nashville had years back pumping out starting goalies, I won't be upset one bit.

Have to agree with this on paper and yes the future hopefully have Konecny taking over for Schenn and getting it done. I think I am more choked that Schenn was my fav Flyer and now my jersey and shirts do not mean the same, lol I do not think the two first round picks will be any highter than 20 and up so not like your getting another Patrick. Have a great weekend.

It's a little mind boggling that some people can't understand what Hextall is doing, but I am very excited about this team now and the future.

I would like a playoff appearance next year, but not sure if they are ready yet. This is the year I have been waiting for the last 3-4 years, now my leash will start to get shorter each following year.

Anything short of a Carey Price isn't going to change this team, so patience with the bumps and prepare for the future.

Maybe not another Patrick, but maybe another dog facker Giroux or maybe Gagne.

EDIT: Some more recent late round picks.

Kuznetsov (26th) 25 years old
Mantha (20th) 22 years old
Pastrnak (25) 21 years old

Players I would rather have over 5th overall Schenn.

The Blues are projected to feature Tarasenko, Schenn, Steen, Jaden Schwartz and either defenseman Alex Pietrangelo or Colton Parayko on their first unit after the departure
