Wow, you guys female dog A LOT.

Still 20 million in cap room. Pouliot may still be moved, hell, Nuge may be moved still.

Russell is a good defenseman, he proved that last year. Shove your analytics up your asses.

- FransNielson

No but they somehow think that if they extend McDavid this year, that it somehow goes against this years cap hit.
Now make like an empty toner cartridge on a Xerox WorkCentre 4265/XF , and (frank) OFF!!!!!!

That's not even enough to sign McDavid and Draisatl.

The cap is going up, not down, and the Oilers wanted him last summer and look what it did for their defense?
- leonkennedy

And that is? So Russell made the Oilers defense what it was? You have seen Mr Shot block play right? He is on the oilers what he was with the Flames a 3rd pairing guy who should be making about 1 mill per. great shot blocker, pat on the ass from your teammates kinda guy. I wanted Calgary to keep him for the 3rd pairing and no where near a 16 million contract. He will make more than Brodie, Tanev, Dumba... Should have kept Shultz I guess.

10 million apart? Plus the fact that McDavids payday won't count to the next season, ya

So you're another Flames fan upset Russell is getting paid more than Brodie? Whose contract is 5 years 23.25 million BTW, which last time I checked is less than 4 years at 16 million. Shouldn't Brodie be the one butthurt about the contract?

Chiarelli is officially an Idiot.

This is way worse than the Andrew Ferrence signing you mungers hated so much.

- Larsson_fan

Disagree. Russell's is front-loaded to the point where he only make 2.5 and 1 mil in each of the last two years making it much easier to move. Russell is also 30 when he's signing this as opposed to 34 when Ference signed his. I'd say the roster circumstances surrounding both even out. The cap implications are the only major negative.

Upset are you kidding me its f'n hilarious...
There isn't another team in this league that would have given Russell that contract and there are 31 that would do the Brodie deal again and again!

I don't know what Corsi says, but pretty sure Russell is better at the defense than Ference. Also to my knowledge he doesn't have a lingering hip issue that will be forcing him into retirement anytime soon.

I could care less about the money- its really not as large of an issue right now as it is the 4 year term with NTC... I would have been fine with a 2 year 4.5 per even... At least we know what we are getting with Russell (Oiler positives )

Funny that analytics in a certain scope (CF and GF) are the fuel for his biggest detractors while, when viewed through a different lense (FF%, GF rel and WoodMoneys) you see a very different picture.

I don't understand the last three. I actually suprising get the Possesion and Goals for though.

Still, I think the eye test is the best way to go.

It's a limited NTC from what I heard and that money is what offers the team an option to escape from the contract sooner than the 4 years. I don't like the contract, but it's not the end of the world and the contract is structured in a way that suggest Chiarelli knows that Russell is likely to decline.

He did wonders for my heart last year. Did you see the standings and how far they went in the playoffs with Russell's steady play?
Why are you window lickers talking like Russell is brand new to the team?

Are you saying if you went through the contracts of every team, you couldn't find a player getting grossly overpaid, at any position? You sound as if this is going to doom the Oilers and send them back to the basement.

I get it, you are still upset about getting swept last season by the Oilers who had Kris Russell in that lineup.

Nope just that Chia paid a 3rd pairing guy 1st pairing dollars with a NTC to boot!

With our goaltending, you could have had the 5 million dollar man and Ferrence as your top pairing and you likely would have swept us.
