Agreed and I don't think Staal wanted to stay in NY; however, IF the rangers were going to trade DB and DS last summer, Staal would have to have been signed; otherwise that trading both of them was never going to happen. In other words, any Stepan trade talk last summer was pissing ion the wind.
- WineryDog

I agree, especially with your last sentence here, because just as I think Tom showed here that the Coyotes were trying to acquire Stepan to be their # 1 center as early as last summer, the Rangers could not afford to part with his game contributions while wanting to win under Hank, and being tied up in cap space as well. Now that there already was plenty of cap space, they are still taking a chance that they can replace his game with another acquisition.
If not, plus if they are unable to acquire that desperately needed RH offensive d'man, they will instead become another step closer to a significant young makeover of this team, in preparation of the post Hank era, especially if retaining their acquired #3 draft pick & their 21st they already had.

3rd year in a row I'll catch them at summer stage in Asbury, seems a regular thing now.

I'm seeing them with Clutch in Pennsylvania. Haven't seen Primus, even though I'm a Les fan. How long they usually play?

No interest in Hanzal at that dollar figure or really that much at all. Ryan, like that one a lot. Lack, meh, prefer Kinkaid or C Johnson.

Is Ryan a good skater? I can't recall ever paying attention to him on the ice, so I just don't know much about him.

I don't see that roster as being sufficient enough to achieve their goal, especially beginning backup goalie wise with Eddie Lack, whose cap hit is $2,750,000 for 2 more seasons, as opposed to the $1,750,000 you posted here. There are better backups out there than Lack.

Hanzal is a huge body and good on faceofffs which they need both of. But he will probably be to much. People are spooked by his bad playoffs. Bottom line tho, they must get a center somehow and may have to sign someone people aren't thrilled with, i.e.-jumbo Or Hanzal. You can't go into a season with 2 centers, one who is illiterate lol and no one else. Unless Nieves is one which I doubt he'll be much st this point. Ideally this 7 pick is ready, is a center and gets 25 goals lmao

Say it with me. NYR Center: JT Miller

Otherwise, I don't see who they get, but that's the fun of it!

THis move is very good in that it does have a rebuild tone to it, but they still have flexibility to be a contender with a few more moves. Gortan did a solid here I think, unfortunately for stepan he was looking like a liability before to long if he wasn't already.

The leadership he gave was definitely something they were clearly worried about as well. That crease lashing he gave Hank may have told them a lot

I'm totally cool with the Rangers taking a step back to try to retool on the fly. They need to do it.

Who else would have contributed ALL the positives that Stepan did last season (& during his career as a Ranger), including his very well defensive played roles, (since you do not want Shatty signed on the back line for his "defensive" reasons)? A. V. used the cards he was dealt with at center. If the Rangers felt BACK AT THAT TIME they last extended him, that they could win a Cup without Stepan, AND if he had no future trade value as you made him out to be for this past season, they would have never given him that sized contract in the first place
So just drop the subject as others have told you on numerous blogs, and ENJOY LA LA LAND for good, wherever that may be for you, since your favorite whipping boy is now gone.

I'm pretty sure I don't bring it up but for some reason u constantly do. U can just admit I was right and move on. I'll accept ur apology.

Rangers might confidence in Hayes taking a step forward? I'd rather Hanzal over Thornton, because Hanzal ins't Joe Thornton. And that's fine by me.
