Yes there is more to hockey than points, and Saad doesn't bring those other elements. I had him in fantasy hockey last year he was a streaky bum.
He would go 5 games and score 8 points, then he would go 10 games and score 1 assist.
Saad had 24 hits and 22 blocked shots the entire season. Barely more than Phil Kessel.
Ok, he doesn't throw hits and he doesn't block shots.. Maybe he's good at stealing the puck?
He ranked 88th in the NHL in "takeaways" with 43 on the season. Decent, but not great.
Not saying that Saad is a bad hockey player, but I think Panarin is at least 1 or 2 levels above him.
It's like comparing Crosby to Krejci - bochangs
One man's trash is another man's treasure. I have watched Saad closely with two teams. He is a true two-way forward and like Hossa, very refined in his approach, and he has one thing panariun doesn't, he can fly.
Panarin, I said the other day here, made snese for CBJ because they need that elite socrer off the wing.
For goals and production in terms of points, I take Panarin. For a two-way winger, and game changing speed, I take Saad.
CBJ's system, IMO did not take full advtantage of Saad like Chicago's did. The stretch pass is back in Chicago. After a two year hiatus. Watch Toews and Keith's numbers go up.

I haven't read up on this year's draft. Is there anybody worth moving up for in the top-10? |

Since the Panarin/Saad trade was completed before 7/1, does Columbus have to pay Panarin's bonus? |

@BrianHedger
According to @CapFriendly #Blackhawks are $1,445,628 over the NHL's $75 million salary cap using projected LTIR for Hossa.
Byebye kruger. - JRoenick97
Hoss's LTIR is NOT factored into that calculation- at least not at the CapFriendly page below.

playoff's? Panarin is non-existent. Saad in the playoffs all day everyday. when it effin matters. Head case torteralla had him up and down that lineup all year. no stability. we will see what happens when he gets back with the hawks. Hope it pans out. Panarin can get his 30+ in the regular season. we all know he goes into ghost mode come crunch time.

What if they included the CAR 2nd with AA for Gal? Otherwise Gal is likely moved by tonight I'd think |

Or some who saw him from 16 yrs old play a game that saw him come out of every scrum (not watching it), play low with speed, north-south and saw him take a Torres on Hossa like hit to the head and was out the next shift........ Not all posters use stats, a posse to back them up as evaluating techniques. - Mr Ricochet
I trust your scouting. And he sounds like a good kid too by all accounts.
I just don't think he is going to be what some here (and elsewhere in the "cyber') were projecting him to be a year ago. I never doubted he was going to be an NHL player of some kind.
Top 6? I doubt it. I'll stand on that.
OK?

Just dumb? Panarin is a one way scorer... Saad is a tough two way 200 ft. player who fits perfect with the system. Both are good in their own way. - CaptainInsano
Panarin second on the team in +/-. More than a one way player obviously. |

Hartman-Kruger-Kero
Hayden-Dauphin-Hinostroza
Keith-Murphy
Forsling-Seabrook
Kempney-Rutta
Rozsival
Crawford
Forsberg
Keith and Seabrook will never be paired together...they are the only vet on the back end who aren't dead!
Bottom 6 is still a bit of a train wreck....
And the Anisimov for Panarin is $4.5M in salary vs. $7.5M for Breadman in two years. So that's not really equivalent... Plus Jeremy Morin morphed into Richard Panik in the original Anisimov-Saad trade.
The next trade will be coach Q!! But at least he can't do a Keith-Hammer pairing any more!!!!! - DMChi2010
This lineup without #81 in it is just depressing...

Because his line scored a ton of regular season goals, with OZ starts. Not because they were great defensively. |

1) Toews "no LW" excuse just went away. And being it is someone he's played with before also shuns the idea of "no chemistry/not the right one". Time to step up Johnny boy.
2) Will be very interesting to see Panarin's year without Kane and under Torts. See what happens when he doesn't want to skate to the tough areas and take/make a hit. Torts will call him on the carpet |

I kind of doubt panarin is very good without Patrick Kane. - Cephalopods
Wennberg getting him the puck? He'll light it up in Columbus.
THAT, at the least, I think was a nice value for value trade for both clubs. If Forsberg is what i think the Hawks are hoping, slight win for CHicago. |

That is why Q almost never deployed him in the D-zone...because of that great 2 way game...Panarin is great at what he does, but isn't a 2 way guy. |

Yep. That was th eissue for Saad, I believe.
All that said, Wennberg is the guy he will play with and I suspect that will be very productive offensively.

If Forsberg is what the Hawks are thinking, I'd call this a big win for Chicago, unless Motte steps up to be a top 6 player. |

Please dig deeper, he had almost zero D zone draws, was on the number 1 scoring line, what do you expect... Q had to shelter AP from defense. In the playoffs he was a -4 |

I'm no scout just a goof who watches teenagers play and know a tough little SOB who has north-south speed and grit when I see one. To say he's a message board legend makes me grit my teeth and most times I can walk away without responding but not with a kid like this who pays the price. You see it at 16 you know it's in his DNA .........May never be a 5-600 game NHLer but a tough little hombre with some skill. Not unlike a few of the Pens bottom 6 guys. |
