WOW What a brutal move by Stan... At first I thought maybe it was cap related, but nope, just dumb.

Panarin, 6 mill cap hit for only 2 years, 70-80 points per season guy
Saad, 6 mill cap hit for 4 years, 50-60 points per season guy

This isn't as bad as James Neal/Matt Niskanen for Alex Goligoski, but it's baaaaad. What is happening to the Hawks???

- bochangs

Can you try to think about this: Hawks lost Hossa, need to try and replace what he brings

Well I think if anything the Hawks got a bit more physical on the back end. I mean, assuming Campbell isn't returning...

Kempny, Rutta, Murphy likely to play some of the minutes played by Hjalmarsson, TVR and Soupy last year. Overall, a bit bigger and more likely to throw hits.

there has go to be something more to the hammer trade. Hawks just see something in Murphy that no one else does?
- kevndevries

Powers reporting they liked Murphy for a couple years.

Yeah, he can play with Kane or some 4th liner on the Leafs, dunno, he may get that choice. Just saying.

Cuz yes, I hear they would lose AA and slug Boyle in there.

- John Jaeckel

This true? Boyle/Hawks possibly?!

I don't like the Hjalmarsson trade. He's the wrong guy to ship out. He is an ELITE defensive D who would be top 4 on any team. No no no #Bad

Must reallllllllly like him then. Hammer was such a big part of the team. Shut down guy for the cup runs. Lets hope Kempny and Rutta can shape into good players.

Yeah, him and fedstammer "no" it all. Knee jerk, vacuum reactions. No substance.

not to mention 2 more years at the same cap hit; whereas panhandle will be looking for a big payday in 2 years (more than the 6M saad will be getting...also...

@BrianHedger 5s6 seconds ago
Kane had two seasons with Panarin and they lit up the reg season.

Toews had three seasons w/Saad & won the Cup twice.

- hawkss81

Saad is also a big help on the PK. Which needs it. If Torts had problems with Saad he will probably have bigger problems with Panarin but Panarin is a better playmaker which CBJ could use. Good trade for both teams.

I would like the Murphy trade far less if Kitchen was still D coach. He may have more talent than Hammer. If Ulf and Q can maximize that this trade is a win just due to his age and cost control.

Hey remember when my team waxed your team in 2013 and then you guys traded Seguin and I built another cup winning team in 2015

Thanks for holding my beer, i'll take that back now

Ywo years ago, I think. I spent some time with Saad one night last season, he said he loved Cbus, Chicago was great. But . . .

I will just say, he and Tortorella were not always eye to eye, and as I speculated here the other day, I think CBJ wanted that sniper/gal scoring on the left flank. Saad is a great 2-way player but not the pure dynamic, offensive threat Panarin is. So each time got what it wanted. Forsberg could be a steal in this. Motte, meh. No tears here. Message Board Legend I suspect.

- John Jaeckel

I can see that happening with Torts. He is the type of coach to get one or two good seasons out of teams before they get tired of his BS. kind of like Ozzie Guillen. Being publicly reamed and sent to the 4th line is not always the best way of handling things.

I'll take the mini Hoss signed for longer over Panarin. In 2 years they would have nothing to show for Panarin (and Hammer). I don't believe Bowman is done.

FWIW I will miss the pretty, telepathic plays from the Breadman and Kane.

Hey now! Nothing wrong with a good beer + cry + drool type of evening every now and then.

I keep thinking Galchenyuk would look pretty great on a line with Kane. Do the Hawks have pieces they can let go to make something like that happen?

Of course Arizona guy tanner thinks they "fleeced" us on the hammer trade and basically said Murphy is just terrible. And douphin is there worst prospect. so a complete and udder steal according to him. Love the Saad deal. Panarin did NOTHING in 2 playoff appearances, good to get some balls back and hopefully some instant chemistry. net front presence as well. put him on the pk and pp. like it. hammer is one of a kind can't replace that but i also don't think murphy is a bag of pucks there tanner. he was captain of the U.S world championship team. if that means anything.

I'm more comfortable with the Hawks bringing in a "project" like Murphy on defense now that Kitch is gone and we have the new assistant coaches. Should provide better instruction and focus.

JJ-

If they acquire another D-Man, do you think Kempny would be added into a trade? Reason is if he plays and has a good year, they would have trouble resigning him longer-term next year.

He certainly is. All things considered he did very well today, the Hjalmarsson move may not be popular but it's a smart move. The Saad move makes the team better overall. Panarin is amazing and I wish him all the best, but Saad's overall game will help the Hawks more.

Lost in some of the hype is the Forsberg trade. The Hawks were in desperate need of a goalie and I'd imagine he'll get a shot at the back-up role. I believe you reported the Hawks were interested in him earlier this season.
