John...

Really thought this was an interesting choice to say the least by the Hawks for the podium walk...

meanwhile Where the frank was Q?

Kudos to Chevy, Bergevin and how bout that reception for Dale...

He's adding an addition on to his doghouse for the soon to be adds of Murphy, Dauphin, Forsberg, and Saad. Anything to screw over SB.

Saad is 24. Murphy is 24.

Who'd a thunk the Hawks were getting younger trading Panarin for Saad.

Saad is 24? ...when did he start playing for the Hawks? At age 14??

LOL...Saad was an incredible 2nd round pick. If not for Saad and Shaw our boy Stanley would literally have nothing to show for his drafts.

Saad started at age 20 IIRC.

And Hammer is 30. Lotsa miles on that perennial shot blocker.

Fortin signed after a tryout...some others traded away (Danault, Teravainen), one who decided to sign elsewhere after college (Hayes). Was reading an article in the Athletic the other day and the Hawks haven't drafted all that poorly actually.

I think they have at D (maybe this year changes that). This is over 7 years. He's maybe hitting on 1 a year and only Saad was blueChip.

That said, Hartman has me excited. I am still not quite sold on Schmatlz, despite the OBVIOUS talent. And I LOVE DeBrincat. My older son attended school in Erie last year and we got to see some Otters games, that kid can freaking play. He is electric. Can he survive NHL hockey? I bet he can.

I have also been on the Hayden bandwagon for a couple years now, if he can get his skating down he COULD be a top 6 winger in my view. Skating keeps him as a lower 6 prospect.

Fortin I have no opinion on at this time, but he comes with raves.

Dauphin was buried on their depth chart. Prob for good reason .
Murphy isn't half the defender nh is.

I dunno. Didn't really think of the upcoming extension I guess. saved some bucks but probably got significantly worse

Anyone else wondering why the Hawks didn't draft Klim Kostin? Risk/reward seems like he might be worth it. Reminds me of Saad based on the injury dropping him out of the top 10... but he also supposedly has an attitude. Maybe the Blues think Tarasenko will keep him in line.

Huh?
K, wait. So unless it's sunshine and positivity it's a troll ?
You guys need to get out more.
Sh1t- I thought maybe if I prefaced it with how awful the guy who runs what happens to be my fav team is, you'd be able to recognize that it's merely an opinion I wanted to discuss saying the same of yours

Supposedly the big knock on him is his hockey sense. Hawks seemed to take a fast riser from the things I have read. Apparently made great progress in the 2nd half of the season after getting acclimated to NA

I liked kostin, Ratcliffe and Timmins myself but after reading about the Finn, sounds like a guy who is developing rapidly plus still growing.

Agreed. Hopefully, that growth spurt he has had this last year continues for a few more.

Dennis Gilbert could turn into something. Better than the services rate him. The Swedes from the 2013 draft don't look like much.

Jeez... lighten up up Francis. His original point wasn't off base, and is shared many people. Hammer is definitely the most accomplished and the two we got back are unproven. ANYONE is free to post here, as long as they arent attacking other people.

Nice pick, underrated prospect that didn't get talked about enough. Would have gone BOA with one of the wingers, but Joki was a solid choice too. Best dman available.
- Nucker101

The Hawks REALLY need blueline depth...roster is getting older with lots of miles, and the prospect pool is very thin.

I expect SB and Co. to draft mostly defenders tomorrow.

his play fell off the last 2 years...still helluva warrior and shotblocker
- bogiedoc

Like I said...it's never an easy decision to move a guy like Hammer...drafted by the club, there for the rise, 3 cups, and countless blocked shots. Nothing to dislike.

But it's still a business and the hard cap makes things even more difficult. Better to move him now while he still has high value.

Besides...if Hammer's play remains high, the Hawks could entertain resigning him in 2 years when his deal ends. It's an option anyhow...

Was at the draft today, and boy was it snooze-fest. Aside from the constant booing every time that Uncle Gary took the stage or when a rival was on the clock, it wasn't particularly loud and it didn't seem like people were that into the draft (at least from my point of view).

No trades were made until the very end of the first round, and it didn't appear like there was much chatter between tables.

The Toews/Kane announcing the pick was kind of cool (definitely McD's idea), but all in all, an uneventful night.

I'm happy/content with the pick. Looking forward to tomorrow! Hopefully it's just as exciting as today was!
