I didn't realize he had fallen so far.
A week ago the prospect of trading for him was gonna Cost the potential suitor dearly cause he was so good and fairly indispensable

Weird how quickly that changed ...

K- maybe that was a tiny bit of a troll

- Ihateallofu

Hammer hasn't fallen THAT far, but the wear and tear has taken its toll. The way he plays simply doesn't lend itself to a top 4 level for a very long time. I love Hammer, but now was probably the time to move him given the cap situation.

Huh?
K, wait. So unless it's sunshine and positivity it's a troll ?
You guys need to get out more.
Sh1t- I thought maybe if I prefaced it with how awful the guy who runs what happens to be my fav team is, you'd be able to recognize that it's merely an opinion I wanted to discuss saying the same of yours

- Ihateallofu

Whatever. Like I said, Troll away. It doesn't bother me.

Lets put that aside cause I don't care one way or another.

Let me ask you this. How many games have you seen Murphy and Hjalmarsson play in the last year.

It's Saint-Louie. Easy pickin's. Can also touch on a little baseball.

Not much ammo for you on baseball. Lots of WS trophies to count here in town and the central is a crappy, flip a coin division this year.

Hjalmarsson is half the defender Hjalmarsson used to be.

Fans grow too attached to their heroes and reputations generally outlive a players actual abilities. Can't keep 'em forever or the club will fade fast into mediocrity.

Better to trade a guy a bit too early, rather than too late.

Especially in a hard cap league.

Not by me. I have been advocating trading him all year. But then given the Hall for Larsson deal, can you blame people for thinking the return would be higher?

See. lol

I remember someone posted on here a couple weeks back: when Kane had great line mates and Toews was carrying his own line, Hawks not so good. Kane will make his line dynamic. With Toews having good line mates and Kaner carrying his line, Hawks have 3 Cups. I like Panarin for Saad for this logic.

I believe that "gem" was mine - in response to Zhawk23 complaining about losing Panarin.

Very true. Same goes for UFAs. Sometimes you really have to let them walk even when it hurts a little.

I was a year off on my regression for the Cubs. Their pitching stinks.

Nice pick, underrated prospect that didn't get talked about enough. Would have gone BOA with one of the wingers, but Joki was a solid choice too. Best dman available.

As a White Sox fan I was clamoring for this after the 2005 series. I remember players like Dye still had great value, Sox held onto him and he was history not long after. But Kenny was stubbon and doubled down on an aging team and the Sox vanished....

rational retorts are like 100X times harder to "hit and run on" as I was accused of earlier ....

But seriously, u guys know way more about him than me, I sorta thought he playEd a " low event" style and that might lend itself to being effective well into his 30s

1st and a prospect is actually the going rate for a rental player like Kane, Sabres can get that anywhere come trade deadline. Blackhawks want to lose salary in the deal, there aren't going to pay less than Kane is worth elsewhere.
- Antilles

This isn't the trade deadline! Buffalo is lacking at centre and Anisomov is a good cost controlled 2nd line centre. They are looking to get rid of Kane and Kane has no intentions on signing next year. Buffalo is also looking at making a run at the playoffs not top five in the draft this year.

Don't be so sensitive. You meant to try to get a reaction and you got one you didn't expect.

He hasn't fallen that far. Downward? Yes. Spiral? No. Sell high. Or like its been said, better a year early, than a year late.

Then there is the "wanna get paid". Hammer just completed his 7th year on a team-friendly, non-ELC AAV. $3.5M x4 starting 2010-11. Now thru yr 3 of 5 on a $4.1M x5. He wants to get paid 7/1/19.

Then there is the value compared to players who are other defencemen. Duncs? No way. Not now. He's the engine of the transition game. Besides there is cap re-capture potential consequence.

Seabs? Not yet, at least. Maybe never. High AAV, long term. Lots hard mins even on this solid frame. Perhaps Stan can move him but I am not counting on it. Besides, with Hammer gone, the defence corps need some continuity. Who better than 2 & 7, your alternates.

Hammer will play into his 30s, but he is a taking constant punishment in the DZ because of relentless forecheck and his ability to block shots. He has been pounded for 8-9 years now. He was never a really fast skater anyway as he relied on superior instincts, feel and gile. As the feet slow down and the body wears, his game will tail off fast. NO, I didn't want to trade him, but this was probably a good time to trade him. If he's still playing at this same level in 3 years I'd be shocked. I think his game will regress quickly and word is he HATED this trade so now you have the emotional baggage of playing for a perennial loser that probably won't have him rushing to do 2x the off season workouts.

I think people are undervaluing Debrincat he's going to be damn good. He has a lighting quick release and accurate shot.
