It was a very brief call but he views some people in Chicago (and nearby suburbs) as the closest thing to family without being family. Tough for him to say goodbye to them.

Yet they wouldn't pay Saad the first time but now all of a sudden 6 mil for Saad is OK . If we weren't burdened with these geniuses we would have had both players. So why would anybody think they are smart today?

The big thing that most everyone forgets (outside or JJ's blog here that is ) is the mental effect/family side of these trades. I know they're pros and all but like JJ mentioned, Saad just built a house in Columbus and the Breadman doesn't speak English that well (assuming his learning but its not the easiet language to master in a short period of time) and his only friends/family he has that aren't half-way around the world are here.

I think the trade is good for both teams as new doors open for both guys but its still got to be tough for both of them to some extent, probably more so for Breadman. I wish him all the best with CBJ and hope we meet them in the Final next year!!!

I don't know about me, I broke my last Northland many years ago...Not sure I could find any even on Ebay.
- Al

Used to get my Northlands at Zayre and skates sharpened at the hardware store until I was 10-11-12.

Are you forgetting who brought the core players in? The GM does not play on the ice. He was gifted those cups off the brains of others. Bowman's only claim to fame was Panarin.

Did you all see that?

That's the way a real GM looks.

Stan could never read a name as well as Dale.

Condolences to Owen Tippett... Hopefully he can get out of there before his best years are behind him.

Anyone hear anything about Q storming out of a draft meeting this morning. Just a rumor I saw floating around.

Wonder if Q heard about his buddy Tippet getting fired?

If Thorton was willing to sign for Brad Richards money, I say go for it. But that's a big ask.

But man, wouldn't Schmaltz-Thorton-Kane look pretty good? Or Hartman-Thorton-Kane?

I find it highly difficult to believe he was not consulted on these moves.

If so, say hello to the next head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks: Kevin Dineen.

Motte has the look of someone who may help in the bottom 6, maybe. Still a prospect though and if it takes moving him in the Saad deal I'm ok with it and still hope Motte can tell the Hawks I told you so 5 years from now. ....

And yea, Cal Petersen would be a great get. ....... I'm wondering if they draft goalie Jake Oettinger with #26 pick? Doubtful though. Hawks treat the position as an after thought.

- Mr Ricochet

To be fair:

Niemi, Darling, Raanta as backups without drafting. Not too shabby

BTW, the Oshie to Chicago "rumor" is still bullpoop. Probably cooked up by his agent to build his value to the Caps.

Totally! Stan should have traded the Core so people would know that it's his team.

JJ has a rumor on E. Kane coming here for Anisimov.

Nice to see Uncle Dale get a warm reception from the crowd.

The hawks have an unworkable "core", consisting of 9 players that take up $60m of their cap space*. That leaves them with about $15m in cap space for 14 players to fill out the roster. That doesnt work!!! The hawks HAVE to get down to a core at $50-55m.

Trading Hammer's $4.1m for Murphy's $3.85m doesnt help that problem.
Trading Panarin's $6m for Saad's $6m doesnt help that problem.
Adding Oshie (core money) doesnt help.
Adding Galynchek (core money) doesnt help.
Adding Evander Kane for AA doesnt help.
Losing Hoss helps some (I don't think all of his cost drops to available based on difficulties manuevering within LTIR), but oh, what a price.

Work left to do!!

* Kane, Toews, AA, Hossa (until LTIR, and the gain there isn't well understood), Saad, Keith, Seab, Murphy, Craw. $60m+-.

- Cmonalready

Well said, but Rome wasn't built in a day. As you mention the albatross that is the core to cap is that can't be fixed with a move or two.

Saad and Murphy don't help the cap today but will in two years when Panarin and Hammer need a new contract and Saad and Murphy don't. ......Purely cap wise it helps 2 yrs out and they got younger and faster as well.

Going well. Busy, but having fun. Flew all night last night, slept all day today, and woke up to find that Stan the Maintainer had been a busy boy.

How you been?

- Ogilthorpe2

Stan The Maintainer may have become Stan the Builder today.

The rest of his career and legacyas a GM probably get shaped to a large extent by the deals today.

You have to applaud the guts and creativity, especially the Columbus deal. Also hearing just now the Hawks are not done.
