This year Sid and Genos insurance was Bonino and Cullen. As it sits now their insurance for next year is Sundqvist and Rowney. That doesn't sound like a recipe for success - willi
Have faith. No way Sund and Rowney end up being our 3 and 4. Ruth is going to get a 3C. He's talking about wanting to get Bones back......we'll see on that.

Patrick Eaves resigned with ANA for AAV $3.1M
He is injury prone, that seems pretty high! |

Oh I have faith. Just pointing out that Sid and Geno had some help at 3C and 4C. |

Eaves an at 3.1 and Oshie at 5.75 per, does that push the price for Bonino down? |

Interesting....
Got this from DK's site.
The Western Pennsylvania product has been traded by the Blue Jackets to the Blackhawks for Artemi Panarin. Wow. I can tell you this much: Saad never really thought that John Tortorella was his biggest fan. |

By that logic thr Pens just proved they could win without a #1 Dman. - willi
Not really. Letang's absence almost sunk us this year where as a Malkin injury did not last year. People really underestimate how spectacular of a playoffs Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, and our goalies all had at the same time. Our blue line's struggles this post season really cut the effectiveness of pretty much all of our forwards except for four of them and made it so a handful of players bailed us out. That's not good. If one of those guys were hurt or snake bit, we go home.
Compare that to last year when we had a functioning blue line and we were getting scoring across all four lines, which allowed us to overcome Malkin's injury which clearly hampered him during the post season.
Letang is irreplaceable. When healthy he's a top 5 D man in this league, but we can definitely acquire a guy that makes it so our entire offense doesn't stagnate when Letang goes down. As good as Crosby, Malkin, and Phil are, if we rely on them to carry us through the post season with the help of elite goaltending and goals from Jake Guentzel from here on out, I would bet we don't win another Cup.
I'm not saying don't get a 3C. That's ridiculous. We have a ton of cap space. We're gonna get a legit 3C to replace Bones. What I'm saying is don't waste trade assets getting an overkill at 3C like Duchene or Tyler Johnson its not as pressing of an issue as a first pairing caliber #2 guy and we can fill that hole through free agency, where as we can't fill the D hole that way. |

All of this.
Schultz moving up next to Trouba (for instance) is still a damn good NHL 1st pairing. Our D is as thin as Ollie Maatta's beard without Letang.
Man.... Draft is pretty boring this year.

Yeah it is boring in a way. Teams got all of their trading done before the draft and ruined the drama lol. |

Dater saying Avs aren't close on Duchene.
I love the overkill option at 3C and think the Pens can improve their D enough around the edges. Part of that is fueled by thinking if Letang actually is healthy it's a waste of cap space to have 3 5M+ RHD if Letang is playing half the game and the tip PP all the options discussed are righties. If one can play his off side, that's who I'd target.
All that said, Avs want a fortune for Duchene and he's not worth it. Ask is a young top 4 D, a 1st, and a good prospect. Don't think Maatta and the 31st pick get Sakic to pick up the phone unless Sprong is also involved. We can look elsewhere. |

Chris Johnston seems to be main guy everyone is going off of. Others commenting mostly on activity, particularly Guerin. |

Bonino might get 4-5.... but still agree. Under 4M Bones is probably taking a little less to win. |

From Yohe...
I’ve covered enough drafts with Rutherford in charge to know when something is going on. I’m not saying he’s going to make a trade tonight. But I do believe he’s engaged in a conversation of some type. |

Hear Ottawa still wants to move dion. I'd send the first for him half retained. Doubt that cheapo will pay that much for someone not to play for him though |
