Wow, if Panarin is actually a really good player (playing away from the Hawks who struck gold with that 2nd line), the Blowjobs just got better in my opinion - hopefully Torts will (frank) it all up! - Aussiepenguin
Yeah I really didn't get that deal from the Hawks' perspective. It makes sense if Bowman is super worried that Panarin will price himself out in two seasons and wants the safety of having Saad locked up, but even if thats the case I don't get why Bowman would add to the deal.
What a fricken bust that Saad trade looks like now.
By the way, Aussie, the Sixers drafted another Australian last night, and my top two free agent targets are both Aussies. If you follow basketball at all you should become a Sixers fan |

Don't follow basketball, but I do know (gets heaps of publicity over here), there are a fair few really good players going through at the moment that are Aussies.
Also, Hawks blog implying they got Saad to get Toews going. Now imagine if that doesn't happen??? Toews will end up 2nd line C in my opinion, but until it's all said & done over there, they may not have a legit #1 C.
They will sign Sharp also, trying to find the old chemistry/success.............. |

I actually like Nico more. I'm good with this. Jersey is still a while out from being a threat, unless they get Shattenkirk in which case they'll have the hardest pieces to get (1C, star forward, 1D) to go along with an all star goalie. |

Yeah man Ben Simmons is gonna take this league by storm next year. I also love Joe Ingles and want to sign him so bad. |

I like Oshie, but that contract smells like a future buyout. - madmike71
Good cap hit for the time being, though. |

Maybe the right call was to trade toews |

The AAV isn't bad but that term?! - Thorny87
It's a trade-off. Cheap cap hit for longer term. You won't find a player of his caliber for under $6 mil on their post-rookie / -bridge contract. |

I don't think the return would be much or they would have to add to get someone of significance. That contract is a whopper for what Toews provides. |

I can't say I'm upset to see Saad back in Chicago. One of my fav players and he played for the Blow Jackets.
Seems like an anti-Torts move. I wonder if they had to increase his psych meds to get him to agree to that deal?
Rags made a nice move. Stepan (seemed to come up small a lot) and Raanta (back up goalie) for 7th overall.
Vegas should have taken Raanta......not sure why they didn't. |

I'm confused about what the Yotes are doing.
I would like the moves they were making if they were only a couple pieces away from contention, but they're not so I don't. Why would they trade a young studly prospect who was playing along OEL last season for Hjalmerson? Why would they trade the #7 for a 2C and a great back up goalie? They're still not a lock for the playoffs. I'd love to hear Tanner's takes on these. |

I didnt like the return on Stepan, DeAngelo already on his 3rd team and they made a big time reach at 7 with Vilardi on the board still among others.
Not saying i wouldnt have traded Stepan but i think they could have done much better |

You should read his latest. Said it's like they're taking moves right off his blog. So there's that.
I think they're at a point where they need to show progress this year. Fans getting impatient, relocation rumors, OEL getting close to UFA, etc. |

They lost Smith, and THEY think Raanta is their #1 goalie now.
I know they are usually near the cap floor, the floor was raised, maybe that had a little to do with it.
They also have a young team that IS improving. Maybe they think they have enough pieces to make a run and finally make the playoffs again. |

The big thing here is I know zero things about Murphy besides the fact that he played with OEL. That doesn't necessarily mean he's good, as we all know, but if he is actually a young, first pairing caliber defenseman, I don't see how trading him for a good, but aging shut down defenseman was a good idea. I do love Hjalmerson though. |

No they don't. They need a 3C, but Bonino just proved we can win without an elite 3C. We were spoiled during the Staal era, and while I would love to get Tyler Johnson or Jumbo in here to recreate the 3 center model, we don't have to. If Crosby, Malkin, or Letang go down, we are in trouble, and Letang is the highest at risk guy out of those three and the most easy to ensure against. - Victoro311
By that logic thr Pens just proved they could win without a #1 Dman. |

Pens have the deepest forward group in the league. That is Sid and Geno insurance. Also, Sid is Geno's insurance, and Geno is Sid's insruance. With the way the Pens forwards are constructed, they could absolutely survive without one of them... (much like they did until the end of the season with Geno AND Letang) - j.boyd919
This year Sid and Genos insurance was Bonino and Cullen. As it sits now their insurance for next year is Sundqvist and Rowney. That doesn't sound like a recipe for success |
