Obviously. It's just that guys like Reaves usually could be had for a lot less? Not that they don't need someone like him, but aren't these guys easily found?
- PensFan1962

No they're not easily found. What sets Reeves apart from most goons is he can play a regular 4th line shift. I think it was an overpayment by GMJR but every Penguin player grew a foot taller today

The biggest problem I have with this trade is it opposes what made the Pens successful - speed.

I'm over the loss of assets and I guess I'll rationalize it by thinking we traded for "less injured" versions of Crosby/Malkin/Letang in the coming years.

- Mattkriz

You haven't watched Reaves play enough, it's ok, you'll see this year there will be a speed and energy addition.

This better not be WHY Reaves is now a Penguin.

Cus, this was nothing amazing. He just timed it better than Shultz!

That's my problem with it. These guys are usually FA mercenaries who sign for $1 mil per (like Reaves did).

Tell me where despres is again
- jchst22

Well he had a bad year with concussion symptoms after a very dirty hit from everyone's saviour Tyson Barrie, he of the one trick pony. And now he sits in the dark all day every day and may never play again. The buyout was never about talent from the Ducks POV.

Sundqvist and our 1st involved.
- Tojo.

Wait, Wait, Wait!!!

I see what happened! They forgot to add Brayden Schenn to OUR trade!!!

See, he just got picked up by STL, so, they didn't have time to show it in the graphic!

It makes sense NOW!

Then I'm OK with it. Overpayment, but at least they got it out of their system.

Now focus on a decent 3rd line C and a a puck moving D, lock up some of their RFAs, and get ready for the chase for #3 in a row.

Despres wasn't a fit at all for the pens. Promptly winning multiple cups is enough of a proof you could ever ask for. I loved despres in junior. Thought he was gonna be amazing..like dp...but some just don't fit. Sund didn't fit and I think Reaves playing for the pens will never hurt. It's not like he is carcillo or glass...dude can play too.

Bold prediction.............

Ryan Reaves becomes a fan favourite - AND, HB fave as well (except for those that follow Corsi, pass completion & Fenwick statistics ).

But he has to punch (frank) out of the following players before he does;
1. Niskanen (dog)
2. OV
3. Wilson (any & all types just kidding except for the Tom type)
4. Dubinsky
5. Craig Adams
6. Lundqvist (just for a giggle)
7. Oshie
8. Marc Staal
9. Dion - all types along with all their parents for calling them that.
10. The whole Blowjobs blue line

Now, who did I forget??? He's going to be a busy (frank)ing boy Ol Reavesy!!

Maybe Hags can give him some tips to get even faster, cus that is the only way I see him being worth what just happened!
- so_buzz11

But he does have decent wheels already... Not healthy Hags wheels... Noone really has healthy Hags wheels but Reaves can skate.. The more I think about the trade the more I like it.

Agreed 100 percent with this... Rowney is going to center the 4th line, unless Cullen comes back. (His emergence with other young players made Oscar expendable)
4th line potentially Kuni - Rowney - Reeves. Useful vs the Flyers, Caps and B-jobs.

I don't know why you say he wasn't a fit (let alone "at all"). What I saw was a smooth skating big man with good puck skills. My only gripe with Despres is that he seemed to want to show off at times instead of making the simple play.

Reaves probably directly replaces Sundqvist so that's the comparison for me. The swap of picks is badd asset management, but whoever gets drafted probably goes in a trade at some point. Not going to get worked up over trading back in basically the 2nd round when we're a win now team, just a worse asset to trade later.

In that way the Pens probably did get faster. But Sundqvist also had some bite in his game and killed penalties so I can't see this as a win. But we were never going to win a hockey trade adding toughness.

Looking at Reaves hits on YT. The first three I watched he was ejected for a major. I'm all for hitting especially if we lose Kuny but not when the guy puts the team down a man.

It's over and done now. He better smoke Wilson first game against the caps.

Yeah, that line would suck to play against, but you would never have to worry about them scoring. Send out your third pairing every time against them.

Yeah, I do worry about center and the PK. Both Bonino and Cullen were good at it.

Who's left really? Hags, Rowney, Rust. Not sure Kuhnhackl is in the lineup. Might need that 3C to kill penalties afterall. Another cost of toughness.

Kostin at 31 will be a story... could be a great player... or he could flop like Nichushkin has or worse.

Pens have taken 2 long seasons of punishment... it's time to ease that a bit if they hope to get back to the dance.

They had Kunitz on the PK, but I wouldn't want to ask too much of Kunitz's aging body. PKers are imporant and some guys are really good at it. I think it should be a prerequisite for our next center. That and the ability to play defense and win faceoffs. Can we just re-sign Bonino?

What did Lovejoy have to do with this years cup? Again, it's not the fact that Reeves is on the team that is my major complaint. It's the fact we gave up way to much for him. We could have got a decent 2nd pairing LHS for what we gave up for a guy we don't need and probably won't play. And now we are very thin at centre unless they think ZAR can move into 4C we have a huge problem and if this is what JR pays for nobodies what is he going to pay for a center.
