I find it hard to believe that eberle couldn't be flipped into a 4th righty defencemen. Even the the islanders could have given up poluck, obvious why they didn't, strome sucks and who doesn't like taking candy from a baby. The jets are paying way to much for Meyers on there third pair and have to trade in order to get a established scoring to move to the peg. The caps have Bowey sitting in the wings who is projected to be top 4. I would go so far as to say johns and a pick from Dallas is a better return then strome. Anything to avoid resigning russel. - BrainSap
Obviously the Islanders weren't giving up Pulock for Eberle (as they were right not to).

Oiler fan here.
I think its very obvious that the Isles won the deal short term. The last 2 years before Eberle hits UFA he will almost certainly be better than Strome. Although its hard to imagine Eberle staying with the Isles after his 2 years are up there. Imagine they have better up and coming players and will have trouble keeping all those signed/happy in the cap world.
However, depending on Strome's next contract price and length and level of play of course the Oilers win this deal just as obviously long term. The deal opens up a lot of cap space. Gives them control of a 5th OA highly skilled versatile (center) RFA for as long as they basically want him.
It was a necessary move for the Oilers to open cap space AND they get a younger player most likely longer term with significant upside.
Both team got what they needed. Oilers more forward depth/versatility/cap space. The Isles an underperforming contract but solid top 6 winger. |

Still cant believe that Chiarelli was a finalist for GM of the year, and had the PWHA clowns actually awarded it to him (which would not have been surprising in the slightest) that award should have gone in McDavid's trophy room too. He should be forbidden by ownership from having anything to do with extending, trading, negotiating with McDavid. Like Ever.

What a surprise Tanner shows he absolutely knows jack **** about hockey. Eberle is over rated. He is currently the better player but Strome is 4 years younger and should have a break out season this season or next season worst case. |

Worst case scenario he has the same playoff all the posters in here did with 0 goals. Oh wait, I guess Eberle did that too.

Worst case? lol
Eberle was 3rd on the Oilers in scoring like him or not...the cap savings look to be going to a bad contract for Russell if the rumors are true |
