Kills me how people dont see Kane as a fit here. Hes literally everything we need. He needs to be resigned
- MCGUIZZY

He won't be signed because of:

- he sets a bad example off ice by approaching preparation and practice like he's Alan Iverson

- he has had a penchant for getting into trouble

- he likely wants to test unrestricted free agency

Kane remains the Sabres’ wild card. Buffalo’s best goal scorer has one year left on his contract. The Sabres need to weigh whether he's a long-term piece or should be moved for other assets.

“We’re always looking at different ways to improve our team, but Evander, Phil Housley’s had some great conversations with Evander already,” Botterill said. “We know how talented of a player he certainly is. From a scoring aspect I think it was 25 even-strength goals last year. How we want to play, he can certainly be a force.

“Our dialogue and interaction with Evander has been positive so far, and we’ll see where it goes.”

All of these opinions are overstated. In a recent article he stated that he would like to stay

If Jason Botterill is the championship caliber GM that we all hope he is, he will be able to find a way to replace Evander Kane's production, either by another player or by committee. His production, while nice for the final four plus months of the season, is far from elite, and is the type that you add when you need a piece to put you over the top. He's not a guy you build around, not when your team is this flawed.

Edit-
The last item is an assumption.

And the first may change depending on discussions from GM/coach.

The second, he's been clean for a year now. Has he reformed? Or rather refrained. Time will tell.

i could say that about Okposo too. Kane is younger and provides elements other than scoring (which he does well too). You dont need to "build around" Kane. Hes a piece of the puzzle that fits. You lose Kane and this team is even more flawed..

I tend to agree that his reputation is worse than it should be.

Having said that, I don't believe the Pegulas will want to risk an expensive long term deal on EK.

Even if the Sabres do nothing today, I am still very excited to be drafting top 10 tonight.

I have my issues with the Okposo deal as well, even before his illness. I thought that deal was way too premature for the state the team was in. That being said, if they figure out a way to get his salary off the books, signing Kane and winning a championship becomes a lot more feasible.

I think your closer with Kane on this roster than Okposo, if you have to keep 1

We paid an appropriate amount for a 60 point player.

I'd love Petry at 4.5. That would be a hell of an acquisition for this team. Then again, getting a guy of his ilk signifies that it's the best the Sabres can do and we're going by a committee approach of a wad of 2nd pairing dmen.

Who's playing Center for the rangers this year?
I still hope the Leafs sign Shatty as he's super overrated IMO
