I don't get you at all. Seriously everyone female doged about the direction of the team under Clarke then Holmgren with the spending money like crazy and trading away picks left and right. Hextall took over a very flawed organization and he has a plan to build it within. its not an overnight process and while it sucks in the short term, I am excited about the long term plans. the fact of the matter is the teams that have won over the last 10 years have won by drafting and developing. Hextall seems committed to building that way. its funny, the Sixers get praise and patience for the whole trust the process and being putrid for 4 years but Hextall/the Flyers already have some fans losing patience after 3 years when we all know building thru the draft is a much longer process in hockey than basketball and football esp when stuck with bad contracts

Wow! Flyers did great tonight. Add future picks and talent. We aren't winning the cup tomorrow. We have the blueline coming in order soon and with it the forwards that will develop quicker. Lot's of talented goalies in place. Hexy is kicking rare ends and people all worked up over 2 year contracts...see the future.

LOL

Hard to do a HoFer at 80, but I hope they take the single-most skilled human alive that is draft eligible, even if he's 150 pounds soaking wet, and just say "Yeah. We're just gonna wait on this kid. Just gonna wait and see what happens. Nothing to see here"

- AllInForFlyers

150 hey.

Chris Hansen the new Flyers scout?

This Flip/Lehtera situation bothers me though. There has to be some solution coming tomorrow even or in the next couple weeks.

We need a goalie badly still, and that's a lot of cap space on an expiring contract and a 2 year deal for bottom 6 players. We can cover it, but it makes things needlessly tight. OMG what if we traded MacDonald and just used 4 ELC d-men. I'll take $10 mil on two crap Finns for that.

- Mononoke

Just accept that we're headed for another mediocre season, but this time we get 3-4 rookies instead of just 2

Tolvanen
Kostin(especially because MJL would despise him)

- Nucker101

Wanted either of these guys but the fact so many teams passed on them gave me pause.

It's just more fun to watch a mediocre team result if you think it's just the beginning and there will be upside.

I think our trade was a win win. Lehtera is meh but whatever. They fleeced penguins. Overall blues got the guy they wanted in the 1st got rid of bum Reaves and got a solid player in schenn. Armstrong did well. Flyers did well. By end of weekend we could be feeling really good.
- Tfaehner

OK. I'm gonna say this with the caveat that no, I wouldn't have done the deal the Pens did:

I don't hate Reaves.

See him play a lot, and I'm gonna tell you guys two things and just leave it be:

He can really move, especially for a guy his size, and he's got enough hands to get 10-12 goals

Oh, one more thing: He will whip your ass. On the short list for the best fighter in the game right now. It's not as important as it once was, but it's there

Again, not defending it. Just saying that Reaves isn't a horrific player. He isn't

I'm a big fan of Frost personally. I may have taken a couple others but Frost was pretty right up there for me to the point where I could dig it without much convincing once the shock wore off. It's the Lehtera thing that bothers me, not Frost. I think he will surprise people who didn't see him get all that hyped or post amazing numbers. Watched a lot of SSM on tape for Frost the last couple months, and I kept watching because I liked him so much specifically and his brand of hockey.

Go worry about passing up Glass brah.

- Mononoke

I didn't see Frost getting picked. As soon as he mentioned the trade I thought it was going to be the Russian that he was high on. I don't know much about Frost but it guys with you wisdom on high on him and Hexy likes him then I will support the pick. Until he disappoints me.

Oh yeah. Trading Read covers most of his cap hit. And we will have potentially 5-6 ELCs next year. Cap hit isn't a big issue, even with this much money on these guys, we can indeed afford it. Just the idea of it is a bit ehhhhh. We have so many depth players as is, we don't need more. But this could mean Weal is in the top 9 cheaply.

We don't have Finns for a while, and then we get these 2 (frank)s. C'mon!

Correct...Flip isn't going anywhere until the trade deadline. He will be an asset then. I hope he can show some of that high end set up ability that he had going on a couple years ago and bring us in a haul next season.

As long as he doesn't go full Umberger, he'd be an attractive trade target.

Expiring contracts FTW!

Meh, GM's are stupid and they get more stupid at the TDL. Could easily flip Val for a decent draft pick. I bet Hexy is thinking along those lines, assuming the team isn't in a playoff spot(which they could be if they get decent goaltending this year and PDO normalizes).

But yeah, I hate that he took on the Lehtera contract. Just a disgusting cap hit for 2 years

For the life of me, I'll never understand the acquisition of Filppula. Would loved to have seen Yzerman poopting himself trying to unload that contract before the expansion draft and free agency.

I feel like Hexy let both teams off the hook kinda easily...but I'm a fan of the strategy.

If they wanted to, they could buyout Lehtera next offseason and his cap hit would only be $1.6M for two years
