Weal isn't even signed. And Lindblom hasn't played an NHL game yet.
Flyers took an inferior player back who is overpaid for his level of production. How often do late first round picks become NHL regulars?
Schenn isn't great by any means, but he does score goals. - PLindbergh31
If the success rate (undefined by you) is 30%, that means that two first round picks will have at least 1 success 51% of the time and two successes 9% of the time. While a success may not be a better player than Schenn, the surplus value of the contract will certainly make up the difference. Once you also factor in the Flyers position in the standings and their future contention, this deal looks pretty fair. Wouldn't you rather gamble on getting great value later when the team needs young players on cheap deals rather than keeping a guy who is paid fairly on a non-contending team?
If you're going to troll, at least troll the team for making dumb decisions rather than making decisions that could help the team in the future. |

I suppose. They could probably also unload Read and maybe even Mac if they are willing to sweeten the deal.
Will they? We shall see. - flyer_nutter
Despite your beliefs, it's pretty much a guarantee that if any of the young players show they are ready for the NHL, room will be made for them.

Williams, Gagne, Richards, Boucher, Downie, and Travis Mother(frank)ing Konecny. - Tomahawk
As much poop as the Flyers deserve for letting their minor league pipeline go to poop, they've excelled at getting talent at the back end of the 1st round of the draft. |

I'm conflicted. Love adding first round picks and top prospects but also like current players who can score. - MJL
that is pretty much how I feel. love getting 2 first rounders and while i know very little about Frost, I do trust the Flyers drafting. they must have loved Frost to make the deal. But on the flip side its taking a step back in the short term unless they are able to add someone else or some of the kids like Patrick, Lindblom, Weal (if he signs), Vecchione and Laughton pick up the slack. no doubt they weren't getting 2 first for Schenn without taking back that contract. with the entry level deals they should have on the team and expiring contracts with Flip and Read, i am not concerned about the cap hit. i do want to hear what Hextall has to say |

With blues fleecing pens they essentially got schenn for Reaves and a late first in 2018 or 2019 - Tfaehner

I think we also need tomorrow to play out before we fully judge anything.
I'm not cool with the goaltending situation, for example. |

Frost is a solid prospect with a good floor and great ceiling. Schenn is replaceable. Especially if Lindblom or Patrick step seamlessly into the NHL - Mordecai

With all the production from the second unit they don't need Schenn.
Can't wait til Lehtonen or Niemi is added as the goaltender. - PLindbergh31
I don't get you at all. Seriously everyone female doged about the direction of the team under Clarke then Holmgren with the spending money like crazy and trading away picks left and right. Hextall took over a very flawed organization and he has a plan to build it within. its not an overnight process and while it sucks in the short term, I am excited about the long term plans. the fact of the matter is the teams that have won over the last 10 years have won by drafting and developing. Hextall seems committed to building that way. its funny, the Sixers get praise and patience for the whole trust the process and being putrid for 4 years but Hextall/the Flyers already have some fans losing patience after 3 years when we all know building thru the draft is a much longer process in hockey than basketball and football esp when stuck with bad contracts |

Right there with you with the exception of the flawed organization part.

Mullen was let go and a different coach was brought in to coach the forwards and the PP. I think it's safe bet that something is going to change on the PP. - MJL

Look at every team's roster. See how many 20+ goal 50+ point forwards they have. May not be extremely difficult but also not that easy to find. - MJL
Give other forwards his PP time and it's not as hard as you think |

Meh. Doesn't bother me
The kid is gonna need a few years, and they have the roster depth to give it to him

And Rubtstov. Remember him?

Frost...what a reach - Nucker101
I'm a big fan of Frost personally. I may have taken a couple others but Frost was pretty right up there for me to the point where I could dig it without much convincing once the shock wore off. It's the Lehtera thing that bothers me, not Frost. I think he will surprise people who didn't see him get all that hyped or post amazing numbers. Watched a lot of SSM on tape for Frost the last couple months, and I kept watching because I liked him so much specifically and his brand of hockey.
Go worry about passing up Glass brah. |
