Wonder if Leafs consider making a deal for 4/5/6/7th overall to get Vilardi.

I am fine with letting the expansion teams start off with at least a chance to be good in a couple seasons.

Agree on Hossa, just a way to get out of the Cap hit.
The answers to the quesitons about the cap hit from the league were vague, people will forget it for a while and in a few months the cap hit will disappear without a real explanation

- senstroll

A la Mike Richards. Why couldn't we just say Lupul put on jeans that were too tight and now he can't get them off? Cap hit gone.

Leafs are drafting Brannstrom lads. Even if they have to move up.

Good write-up!!

surprised you didnt put Coner Timmins on your list of D-Men. Right Handed shot...great skater and passer and very good defensively. possessed leadership skills as well.

Reminds me a bit of Drew Doughty.

here is the write-up on Coner Timmins:

2016-17 Team: Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (#21)
Date of Birth: September 18, 1998
Place of Birth: Thorold, Ontario
Ht: 6’1” Wt: 181 lbs
Shoots: Right
Position: D

Timmins vastly improved at the offensive end. One of his biggest strengths is his passing ability. Whether it’s clearing the zone or making the right pass in the offensive zone, Timmins is decisive in his decision-making. This led to him becoming the Greyhounds’ quarterback on the power play.

Timmins recorded 7-54-61 in 67 games in 2016-17 after scoring just 13 points in 60 games last season. He was given a golden opportunity and has run with it. He’s also an effective defender. He’s not afraid to get physical with you. As with most young defenders, he needs more strength for the next level. But given his overall skill set, Timmins deserves the attention he’s getting as one of the fastest risers in the entire draft.

I'm ok with taking Brannstrom, rather Liljegren though. Brannstrom's a talented kid, undersized d-man for sure. Some sites have him at 5'9" some at 5'10". The puny size scares me a little.

Did you guys see who the Raptors drafted? Yea me neither. I don't know why any team not named the Cavaliers or Warriors would bother trying to compete for the next 3 seasons. Just tank it up while the league is a joke.

But they have a stats guy as their GM. I'd like to see OEL's Corsi relative with Dave Tippett on and off the ice.

This whole expansion process smells rotten. Holding teams hostage and making' trades' so teams can keep their players? Stupid.

You know what else smells rotten? The Hossa 'skin disorder'! Seriously? So now Chicago can just get rid of the contract? LOL. SMELLS FISHY TO ME BOYS

- Hockey_Reverend

There have been several teams that have complained about the Hossa situation. Hossa has one of those highly questionable front end loaded contracts where he is paid only $1 million a year for the last four years but the cap hit is $5.275 million for four more years. NJ got their pee pee slapped by the league for the Kovalchuk deal - trying to circumvent the cap - this is even more obvious. By claiming he is only injured for this year and intending to come back (which is obviously bs) they can put him on LTIR and get cap relief (which is really bs) If they give the Hawks the relief and it turns out he's not coming back - can't undo the relief. I hope they throw the book at the Hawks, lose draft picks and fine like NJ got. Then poke out Hossa's eye with a stick.

Friedman: I think #Leafs are in the mix for Hamonic. I don't know that #Stars are, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were.

Friedman: I've heard #Isles are asking for two first-round draft picks for Hamonic

LOL

I just think he fits the Leafs need for the future. when you look at his overall game, he isnt weak anywhere, or lacks size.

I think he has the tools, skills and defensive game to eventually become a top-4 D-man in this league.
