The Oilers home crowd is alot like the fans in Toronto. When they turn on a player you might as well trade them because it won't be pretty. I think Eberle needed a change. I was never a Hall fan but I wish Ebs was heading to the Leafs.
He'll most likely be great just like most players who've been run out town by our respective fan bases. - shack67
NAiled it. Oilers fans love their scapegoats....its strange tho....they defended Yak until the minute he was traded....but actual good players like SCHultz, and eberle were poop on.
CAre to predict who the fans will turn on next?
1.Lucic
2.Russel
3.Nuge
4. MAroon

#NHL discussed idea of a minor penalty resulting from a failed offside coach's challenge. Team would not lose timeout, but get 2 min pen.

I went to alot of Oilers games when Hemsky was in his prime. When he'd cross centre ice the crowd would scream SHOOT in unison. And we wonder why free agents go elsewhere.

They needed to get rid of salary.... not sure why we are overcomplicating this. Ebs is skilled but lacking grit, intensity and a defensive mind. Can we not pretend the guy walks on water. Everyone looks at trades from a skill only perspective and in a cap era that can't be the case. The market is set by offers they receive from
GMs that sit in a war room with their scouts that watch hockey around the clock. This was the best cap friendly option they were offered from around the league so they took it.
BS baffles brains and your doing a good job of it. Eberle is going to light it up and Strome is going to struggle. Three years ago I was high on Strome but have watched him gradually decline since then. A good start is critical for Strome or he will not recover from this downward cycle. - joegreif17

I like Russel but yeah 4x4 is too much. 4yr/3M is the utmost I would like to see. - McSavioursPupil
Of course the cheaper the better but 4 mill a season for what he brings to the table is not that crazy. Chia really likes him and apparently so does McLellan. This from David Staples:
In the end, the bottom line about Russell — no matter how ardently some Oilers fans and bloggers will deny this fact — is he was a solid second-pairing dman on a team in close contention for the Stanley Cup. He’s also just 30 years old, so it can be expected that his play will start to deteriorate due to age and injury but he should be able to hang on near his current level for three or four more years. However poorly some armchair GMs (and it’s important to note such folks often have a weak or entirely uneven records in terms of player assessment) might think of Kris Russell, Oilers coach Todd McLellan clearly does not agree with them, not in the slightest. Russell played more minutes per game at even strength than any other Oilers d-man in the 2016-17 regular season and got the second most minutes after Adam Larsson at even strength in the playoffs. McLellan views Russell as a top-pairing d-man right now.

I just spoke with Daddy Katz... The current offer is 3 years, 10 million dollars.
Lol. Edmonton is the most pathetic franchise in the history of sports. Starting with trading the best player of all time (Gretzky) and it just gets worse from there. It took getting 1 of the 2 best players in the last 25 years to finally have a winning season, and they follow it up by trading away your 3rd best forward to save money. Complete joke from the owner to the GM. I feel bad for Oiler fans too because they are so passionate and patient. Unfortunately, you have a cheap owner and a GM who makes terrible decisions.
.
At least you have McDavid, so that should be fun at the least... Too bad Once he's eligible to hit FA he's as good as gone. And if he stays, you better hope he stays healthy because I guarantee Draisaitl is gone. No way that cheap skate will keep both of them...

@EdmontonOilers thanks for nothing! I finally get you to the playoffs, and this is how you repay me? I hate you and your stupid fans! I (frank)ing hate you all!

I just saw an official poll floating around... Least pathetic/most successful franchise in the history of sports... The Buffalo Sabres.
SOrry BUbba....if he is gonna ditch some salary for a cheaper option he should have let Russel go. Just my opinion. If he spends the savings on Russel I will be disappointed. - Larsson_fan
HOLY fuk this
If he made this deal so that he can afford to sign kris Russel long term ill lose it

No they didn't
Where did this narrative start?
We certainly didn't this year and hell, we may hve even been fine next season when Connors kicks in.
Strome has some real potential and can do a few things that maybe ebs cant for this squad .
But at face value offensively speaking it's a step backwards.
I'm hoping chia has something up his sleeve with these savings
Friedman reported that the price for Hamonic was Eberle with a significant plus so, assuming that was the case, a trade for him didn't seem likely. The next step for me would've been DeHaan as I think he'd be a great fill-in for Sekera while he's out without costing too much. But alas, that wasn't meant to be. - MaximumBone
Thanks for that man so it does work in terms of cap and not adding significant (nurse?)asset, maybe strome turns his game into beast mode and plays with mcdavid and scores 30? who knows? If that's the case then Chia did amazing!,if not then their's always the cap space he saved and flip Strom off to play with his brother! Best of luck with the rest of the offseason!

Did a guy from buffalo just call out an organization with 5 cups ??!
