Not that bad of a contract at the time; that was the going price for young forwards producing more than 60 points. I blame Eberle himself more than anyone else. An inability to grow and adapt his game led to two down years in a row on a one-dimensional winger. Doesn't make for an easy sell.

We really do need to stop trading with the Islanders.... it almost never works out.

I would be more upset if Eberle wasn't an expensive complimentary player

Yeah. The Reinhart one still hurts so much more, though. Losing the picks that were likely going to be (as per Stauffer) Eriksson-Ek and Carlo is a major killer. Imagine having those two in our position heading into next season:

Maroon, McDavid, Draisaitl
Lucic, Nugent-Hopkins, Strome
UFA (Sharp), Eriksson-Ek, Caggiula
Slepshev, Letestu, Kassian
Pouliot, Khaira, Puljujarvi

Klefbom- Larsson
Sekera- Carlo
Nurse- Benning

That's a young, versatile line-up with 6 natural Cs (5 younger than age 25) that would've set up to compete for years.

And it's all gone

I honestly tried to read through the blog. I couldn't stomach Hendo's writing and griping. Worst (frank)ing blogger ever. I would prefer the clickbait hate fest blogs of RC to Hendo's drivel.

Hasn't written an actual new blog in over a year...just swapped words to make it look different.

This is the Hall trade of 2017. An offensive player traded for an underwhelming return.

I hope that this trade works out in reality like the last one.

Eberle doesn't drive the offence he's a product of who he plays with.

If Eberle makes 4 million per season this trade doesnt happen. I blame Tambellini and Mac-T for handing out that horrid contract.

Diddo... Eberle price point was way too high...

As much as I hate the Reinhart trade you guys haven't won it until Barzal does something meaningful in the NHL. After all this is the same scouting staff who drafted and attempted to develop Reinhart.

He fuking better Be

I'm seriously wayyy more inclined to sign a gryba type short term to play 3rd pairing duties alongside oesterle or something similar amd play nurse/Benning 2nd pairing than sign that awful awful deal that's been reported for Russel

Absolutely zero doubt we're regretting it inside 2 seasons

So basically if he plays 40 NHL games, the Isles win the trade.

He's not going to win many puck battles. Paired with Tavares and a power forward that could be a lethal combo.

Is there any reason why the Oilers don't want to part with their 1st round pick? You would have to think they could have packaged it with Ebs and gotten a better return.

I am just spit balling here but I am pretty sure Snow would have loved to get back into the first round. They probably could have gotten Strome and De Haan with some combination of Ebrerle their 1st and maybe a mid level defense prospect.

Don't worry. That's coming tomorrow. Snow will give you guys Bracken Kearn & Steve Bernier for that 1st.
