Strome never really impressed me much From the little I've seen.
But he was a high pick and they say he's got some real skills.

SOrry BUbba....if he is gonna ditch some salary for a cheaper option he should have let Russel go. Just my opinion. If he spends the savings on Russel I will be disappointed.

With Strome you have to bear a few things in mind. He had Zippy the chimp (Crappy) as his coach. Crappy had no clue how to develop talent. He was also Crappy's whipping boy. Since Crappy didn't have the balls God gave a gnat, any time a veteran screwed up, Strome would pay for it by sitting in the presser. Strome was bounced around from line to line. He has talent. I think he needs confidence. My guess is that he'll do well for you guys. That's why there's been several isles fans in here saying the same thing.

Where did this narrative start?

We certainly didn't this year and hell, we may hve even been fine next season when Connors kicks in.

Strome has some real potential and can do a few things that maybe ebs cant for this squad .
But at face value offensively speaking it's a step backwards.
I'm hoping chia has something up his sleeve with these savings

Gonna have to disagree. Sure, it wasn't absolutely necessary this year but it was going to happen. Once Lucic was signed, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Any team would be hard pressed to afford all of McDavid, Draisaitl, Lucic, RNH AND Nuge making 6mil+ and still be able to ice a competitive bottom-6. That's around 30mil for 5 top-6 forwards.

The way I see it, it came down to three options:

1.) Move Nuge, but he's a C and more versatile (McLellan loves the guy).

2.) Wait till next season and risk a further decline from Eberle (who still wouldn't get PP1 time) and be desperate to trade him thus getting even less for him. Even if he had a resurgence, you'd be losing value as a result of our needing to move him. Best case I can imagine, we wait a year and get a Strome-level player anyway.

3.) Trade him now for a young, safe bet for 35-45 points who you can determine the value of in-season and likely resign as a valuable and relatively cheap middle-6 guy for the future.
