Just met with Jim Benning at his media availability, sounds very unlikely that Tanev gets dealt. Said they'd need a d-man back. #Canucks

Watched the media availability, Tanev is definitely not going anywhere. Sounds like he would've been significantly more comfortable moving him if Sbisa were still here

These two comments are positive... but not trading Tanev is very shortsighted

How is it shortsighted if we get a better return at the deadline?

Trading your best Dman for a third line center is even dumber
- VANTEL

You mean our best Dman who gets hit hard every single time he steps out on the ice and scores a whopping 3 goals a year.

I wont say shortsighted but dont think the deadline will bring any greater return. If the asking price is a prospect and a first round pick, I dont think teams will be more desperate in 6 months after the dust settles from this week

That is dumb because as pointed out by others there are 15 Sbisa's in free agency.

Some people forget that we have a hard time scoring goals. Bottom 3 in the league in goals scored for 3 years running and we are worried about holding onto a defensive dman who other teams are coveting and maybe offering up quality goal scorers.

The rumour is Dallas is offering a swap of 3 and 6 and they will throw in 29th pick. That's terrible value. Hold onto Tanev until the market improves. I want Tanev gone but I hate Dallas and don't want to give them a discount

This is acceptable, but not being able to find a Sbisa replacement is a joke

Honest question here. How many of you guys were on the edge of your seat and blew the roof of your house when Tanev made a great defensive play last year?

My reason to keep Tanev is to teach OJ. Nothing else about his style.

Trade Gudbrandson at This years TDL . Edler at the TDL the following year and Tanev the following

Probably, but maybe he just needed justification for not moving Tanev

I agree its not the best value, but the return on defense from the past few TDL's have been atrocious. Granted, Tanev will have term on his deal but I think the rumored Dallas deal is probably better than what offers come after Tanev spends another 60 games taking a beating, covering for a rookie partner, and not getting helped out by a stud goalie

Do you want Makar more than Glass or Vilardi? That's what we get for moving to 3. I'm not sure who I want more to be honest. 29th overall in a weak draft? Hard pass

I'd prefer a D, but I dont watch enough to know who the best prospect would be for the team or its draft positions over the next 3-5 years.

My guess though is that the comments of "weak draft" is why they wont see a better return next TDL

Strome for Eberle.

Typical Garth Snow

Am I the only one thinking the Islanders have been fleeced again? Not a huge fan of strome, but he improves every year and is like 22? Chiarelli made a great trade imo.

I want Makar for his insane value (drafting him, then trading might get us a young 1c?). But I want Glass/Villardi/petterson because I can legitimately see them being key players for this team.

Neither. He had a pretty bad year. He was supposed to be the 1c at the beginning of the season, but he really struggled playing center, so they switched him to wing, but he was just as bad. He's definitely a project but is young enough that there is a lot of upside.
- Crazybagoham

Really? I don't see how 44pts in 61gms is a bad year? How high are your expectations?
he's still only 22, was it realistic for MTL to expect him to be a 1C?

If he had played a full season, he was on pace to put up his highest point total of his career. For some reason, bcus "he" couldn't figure out if he was/is a center or a winger, that equals having a bad season? MTL were constantly line juggling, that easily could've led to some inconsistent play.

I dont understand your comment regarding trading the 2nds to get in the first? What if trade both for pick 24 and grab Kostin? Quality > quantity. No brainer
- CanuckDon

Well obviously it depends on the pick donny. But anything less then 6 slots is a pretty high price to pay. Quality over quantity 9 times outta 10 but special consideration must be had when your prospect pool is insanely bare. The player must be one tjat managanement Really likes

Well, a bad year from what Montreal was expecting out of him. They really wanted him to be that amazing top line centre.Despite what we think, Montreal didn't like how he played this season. Didn't help that they fired their coach, when they were leading their division. Not my expectations, so dont put words in my mouth.

I agree, he is definitely a solid young player. That's why he's one of the only players (that might be available) I wish JB would trade for.
