With respect I disagree.
We are in big need of Ds and Cs .
There will be Nico Nolan Casey Cody Gabriel Makar Heiskanen That is seven players that top scouts Gms and Benning have highly praised. Pick one . We pick fifth and that is a list of sevn . One will be available no need to get fancy and do something stupid - VANTEL
JB likes Petterson too - so thats 8!!!
I was just using 8 as a hypothetical, I'm with you, just keep the 5th and retain whatever power that comes with having that choice. Don't do anything stupid. You're stupid enough JB. |

I think those are good/safe picks. Makar is the only ? for me, and Mittlestadt. The fact that one is coming from the AJHL and the other from high school, just scares the crap outta me. I just want JB to stay away from the high risk/bust potential guys.
+ I want a centerman. - Brooks_Light
high risk, high reward for Makar. Is said to have the best vision and best skating in the draft class, would be hard to pass up what COULD be an elite D-man, but I totally get the risk. Glass is my top pick as well. |

Lots of free agents that can fill in. At this point i would rather sign Franson and Kulikov, Del Zotto. At least they could bring some offence. - manvanfan
Absolutely, I was thinking about that angle too. I guess theres more risk in taking that route, bcus you have to find a solid trade for Tanev to start, then you have to be sure as sh^t you get someone in free agency to fill that (big) hole. It can be done, just more risk, work involved. And JB hasnt really pulled anything like that off, so most of us don't trust his ability. Id love for him to surprise us like he did at TDL.
Goldy, Dahlin, Burrows and Hanson are the reason we didnt get bent over on Wednesday, which in my mind, was a win. |

I don't like / don't mind Makar.
He is not my choice but when you have the hockey community all saying he could be number one , then I need to listen.
I want Glass but will take anyone of the seven I mentioned before |

Juolevi Makar would be sexy time for years to come.
Glass or Villardi are not sexy. Middlestadt is sexy.

until the kid doesn't smile the right way when he gets his jersey or doesn't act excited enough when interviewed , the the Benning doubters will have more fodder for their complaining |

It pisses me off to hear that we might trade down. This team is paper thin with talent and tanked all year to get the highest pick possible and now we want to downgrade? He s an idiot even to entertain that thought. - VANTEL
Why?
I heard some draft expert all season saying that there was no difference between drafting in the top 10 this year and drafting 15-25. In fact, this draft expert said you can just find the "clones" of the high draft picks in the lower half of the 1st round and perhaps even later.
You disagree with that draft expert? |

Getting the right value for tanev is the hard part. Lots say hes a 2nd pairing D. That doesnt scream top 10 pick unless something is added to tanev. Van isnt going to be better or worse because of Tanev.
If JB could just pick up even a bad middle of the road expiring contract like Matt Read or someone that can be used and hopefully flipped again at the TDL. Get another 2nd and Read for SJ 4th. |

Anyone of the 5 is good .
The thing I like about Glass is he is smart. He is always in position . He can score . He is strong on the puck. He is 6,2 and 18 if he has a growth spurt like the rest of his family he could be 6'5 -6'7 ?
He is also dedicated was already seen e week ago working on his skating. |

I think Glass has 1C potential and he's a great kid. If the Flyers weren't picking top 2 I'd be doing everything in my power to get him.

That's noteworthy. Benning deflected a question about Pettersson to dive right into Vilardi. Hasn't spoke much of him at all this year.
