An amazing ahl post season doesn't mean an amazing NHL post season.... they are entirely different. Guentzel obviously was a good player. It doesn't mean that he was going to tie the rookie record for post season scoring. Even well educated people know that. Not sure if you consider yourself one of those people or not? - rbaurle51
But good numbers in the Q translates to guaranteed success eh? |

My point was that it wasn't out of the question that he would play well alongside the BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD given his track record of success in the AHL. Plus, all you had to do was look at his play in the regular season and you should have expected good numbers. I for one never worried about Guentzel in entering or at any point in the post season. |

I said he can. I'm not saying that he's definitely going to tear it up. |

His AHL playoff numbers are right there.. how cold no one have predicted post-season success, given that he was amazing in the AHL post-season? Numbers are right there.. and that's what people use to form opinions on players, well, educated people. - j.boyd919
He also killed it in the USHL. Going back to the start/early competition days of his hockey career. |

Lol I still think he's gonna tear it up when he joins. We'll see what happens. I'm not gonna keep defending myself. Sprong looked great when he was on our team even for a few games. |

exactly this. you arent getting a letang clone that would seamlessly step in when he is hurt.
schultz slides up as the number one. the insurance would more realistically be someone who can slot in behind/with schultz to present the trickle down dumpster fire.
nate schmidt is a huge add for that. at least among potentially feasible options. - stayinthefnnet
This is all I'm saying. I'm not saying you get another Letang, but you get a legit number 2 that doesn't make the drop-off so drastic if Letang goes down. I'm still scratching my head they won the cup with Hainsey and Dumo getting top pair minutes. |

Demers is available for 4 yrs at 4.5 from Florida
Get them to eat a mil or so and you have a solid guy to play with Schultz at a good rate. Won't cost an arm and a leg to acquire. Being Florida, would they retain? hard to say |

Since I can't travel all over the world to see prospects play, I go by scouting reports and by "scouting reports" I mean the evaluations done by people in the hockey scouting business who use their own eyes and instincts for judging talent to tell me the kind of potential a specific player has to be successful at the NHL level.
Stats don't tell the whole story because you can have under or over inflated stats for numerous reasons that don't reflect accurately the actual hockey sense, skill or potential ability of a player. Sprong's reports are all very strong (outside of his defensive lapses) and he has the statistical numbers to back them up. He projects to be a good-very good NHL forward with a very high skill set.
Why would anyone want to trade that kinda asset at this point in his career for anything other than equal compensation or another major key ingredient? Because of that and his future upside I would never trade him as part of a package deal for Matt Duchene. A 3rd line center on this team for what many are projecting to be a top 6 winger (who shoots right) and let's say Maatta? No way. That's too much to give up for a 3rd line center, no matter who it is and I'm not typically one who is against trading prospects for immediate help.
Honestly, if they simply had to give away Maatta to afford resigning Bonino, I'd rather do that than to give up Sprong and Maatta to get Duchene. Seriously. |

Who was reporting it? I haven't seen it yet.
Generally because there are less RHD they very rarely play their off side so it makes it a very rough adjustment in the NHL. When NSH acquired Franson from TOR they forced him to play the left side and struggled mightily. His reputation has never been the same since. |

LeBrun
Demers would be great in the #5 role and as a guy that can move up in a Letang injury. Salary plus cost to aquire might not make sense though. |

Pierre Lebrun, Florida is cutting salary so its a tough sell. Ideally you'd want a Left and right together. Could always anchor the third with Maata... but thats an expensive 3rd pair |

Yeah I like Demers but at $4.5M for 4 years that is kind of pricey. |

yep, would only make sense if he's at 3 or low 3's, but I like the idea of bolstering the D next season, our forwards still look good despite the possible hole at 3LC |

Very good. Rue is good as 7/8 D. Curious if this is done now to go after a bigger fish during the draft coming up.
