Raanta and Stepan to ARZ for the 7th overall in the works. Sounds interesting..... |

They must think Murphy will get better. The center is a nice piece. But thought they needed to clear space.
Can't wait to see this Saad/Panarin trade. - Tojo.
There deals should make them worse in the short term. Checked their board they all think saad is better than panarin. I thought murphy sucked but i think i had that opinion from tanner saying bad analytics. He does supposedly skate well and is a big boy so could be a schultz situation.
Big thing for chicago is saad/murphy have 4 years cost controlled...hammer/panarin have 2 years and both probably get raises. So years 3 and 4 is where chicago could benefit.
I think it makes them worse next year, but this does improve them with kane/toews window against the cap. They might be a team that needed to make that sacrifice. |

Hawks fans raving about this trade. About Saad being a playoff performer, I thought he was invisible this year. And previous success with Toews was before he fell of a cliff. Maybe Saad will help him out. Hard to replace that reg season scoring Panarin provides. |

He certainly does not play the "Torts way". |

IMO Saad played on stacked team so they remember him fondly. Panarin played on flawed team so they remember him poorly. Pretty simple. Sort of like kessel.
The deals can work for them if they turn Murphy into a sold 2nd pairing guy. Small step to getting themselves out of salary cap hell. Panarin could look at 8 maybe even 9 million on the open market if he just cares about money and saad isn't a big enough downgrade to make it worth that. |

Odd. You wouldn't think that the best center in hockey, also the best leader, would need saad back to be productive. Probably could've kept saad in the first place if Mr. Toews wasn't over paid by 4mil |

I think at this point that's a pretty big if. You aren't wrong though. They can't afford Panarin after this contact so there's that. |

This doesn't look like a great match. CBJ really needed an elite scorer though. Question is how much will Panarin miss Kane.
I don't really mind this trade for either team. Pretty even assets, just different skillsets. Hawks getting younger and getting mire cost-controlled assets as others have said, but they still have the same cap problems and roster holes. |

He's not available. Not sure who all their core guys are, but Fleury, Schmidt, and Theodore at least they've told teams they aren't flipping. |

I agree its a big IF. I'm not saying its a good deal. Murphy kind of reminds me of a poor mans Simon Depres before he was hurt. Big can skate and has some offense first round pedigree. Signed similar contracts.
But yes if the IF happens and murphy turns into a 3d which seems like he has the talent for then this solves hawks cap problems for a while. |

I think the Rags are going to lock up best buds Shattenkirk and Bonino together. I just cant shake that feeling... |

It's strange to see the Rangers with a good cap situation. You may be right. 20M space, relatively small RFA group. Most roster spots full. Just need a center and defenseman really, and backup goalie. |
