Yeah ...I'm very confused on Duchenes value ....he's struggled recently but I still think on a team where he cares he's easily a 1C |

If Treliving trades Bennett for Hamonic he should be fired. Bennett is still an elite prospect and could easily be the Flames best centre in a few years. They seem to have a log jam at centre right now, but there's really no one else coming after Jankowski, and maybe wait until Jankowski has played more than one NHL game before cementing him into one of the centre spots for the Flames.
If the team has stupidly given up on Bennett already, they better be trading him for a legit top pairing guy instead of a pretty good 3-4. It's a trade they shouldn't be making at all unless they were legit cup contenders, and they're really not there yet. - Hunkulese
Wow I actually agree with you 100 percent. If they trade Bennett they'll regret it big time mon.

Hey Bro! You know I have always been pro Janko, right? You know that. But he has only played 1 NHL game & we need to keep our centres until he shows one is expendable, whether that is Backlund or Bennett. Bennett should almost be untouchable or at the very least a whacko price if someone wants him that bad. Almost to the point of if Anaheim want him bad (rumours have them coveting him) then we want Manson & Ritchie for a Bennett & our 1st type of deal, otherwise pissoff!
Hamonic actually didn't have that spectacular of year, no way I give Bennett in that deal.
Maybe Vegas will take our #16 & someone like Shink for Schmidt. Otherwise, I am totally fine with giving Stone 4.0 mill on a 3 year deal max. & let our D prospects push him out of our top 4. |

You can't put all those centers in the same category ...you have a good arguenent but doing that takes away from it and makes you look foolish - Redmile247
For the purpose of the argument I was making, they are in the same category. They all transitioned to the NHL with early success and we're able to contribute almost immediately. The list was clearly an example of players whose game translated directly from junior to the NHL. The only comparison was really between Backlund and Bennett. Much like Backlund, I believe there will be a learning curve and then a stark improvement , once he "vet's it". I think he'll do that sooner than later.
He's definitely worth waiting and seeing.
I know it's tempting to try and parlais his potential to fill a perceived need, and he's probably the highest valued " chip" the team would contemplate using to acquire a bluechip blueliner, but I really think he's going to step it up real soon. |

Just to add more fuel to the fire, this from P Lebrunn:
"Flames on lookout for top-4 D... believe they've looked into Hamonic, Methot, among others; also still trying to re-sign M. Stone... |

So like is my perception that skewed but why in hell would Mcphee pick Schlemko & then flip him for a whopping 5th round pick when he could have plucked Dillon or Ward??? |

In my opinion, McPhee (frank)ed up royally. He could've had a better team and/or more picks. He had a huge opportunity, and didn't make the most of it |

Engelland is a solid player. He brings more to the team then puck possession horrible written article. |

All that poophead had to do was wait on Bob Murray's bluff and he could have had Vatanen traded out of the division.
Or lied to him and drafted Vatanen himself! |

Yeah that's a great way to start a franchise ... welsh on a deal
He got Theodore instead of nothing ...he was never going to get any of the other D ...they would have been dealt

Yep. He will be their MVP off the ice. The team is going to be awful, finding a positive possession player on defense isn't going to make them any better.
Having a guy that can keep young guys in check, introduce 20 new players and personnel to a brand new city and be marketed as the hometown guy is much more valuable than anything else we had to offer.
He drops the gloves a few times early, watch him become a fan favourite and sell some jerseys. |

What? Great for Vegas is what I'm getting. Wait till someone crushes Johnny and no one stands up. What's that worth? Not great for Calgary. |

I think it was probably more complicated than we all realize. We see a bunch of players that McPhee "should have" taken. It sounds like in exchange for not picking them guys he stopped the mass re-distribution of players that we all thought was coming.
Had he not made it so that nobody wanted to/could deal with each other then who knows maybe he doesn't get guys like neal, schmit, TVR etc. |

Sure; terrible, terrible policy. But.. he could have agreed to a Theodore deal and then gone rogue when it came time to submit his picks.
Or just say "tough luck" and force Murray to trade Vatanen.
Both options would translate to a divisional rival losing a very good defenseman. Theodore (frank)ing sucked ass last year. Not a fan of that turnover machine. |

GMGM got the most value without pissing off a potential future trading partner ...if he goes rogue do you think any other teams will trust his word ...if you don't like shea that's your deal but I think he did well |

Yep, I think he'll be good for Vegas too. I'll miss the toughness, but I don't think it was in our best interest to bring him back. I don't think we'd ever make it past the 2nd round of the playoffs if our blueline is bad enough for him to be playing regular minutes.
Respect the poop out of him, but it was time for us to move on.
As for standing up for Johnny. I think we need to develop a team mentality to swarm guys and make life a living hell for anyone who (frank)s with our stars. If Tkachuk can bring Backlund and Frolik into a scrum after every whistle, then anyone is capable of doing it.
It's tough to win in this league if you're dressing guys that don't bring much else to the table other than toughness.
Ferland can go toe to toe with pretty much anyone in the league if need be. |
