#NHL discussed idea of a minor penalty resulting from a failed offside coach's challenge. Team would not lose timeout, but get 2 min pen.
The hurricanes stink. Look at their goalies. Worst in the league. Give me Faulk all day. - tomburton99
I already inferred to in different words that "the Hurricanes stink" (& not just this past season). But it is not due to the fault of Cam Ward, a Stanley Cup winning goalie for them, as you make your reply out to be here.
The Canes have finished with no higher than 87 points (in this past season), since Justin Faulk began playing with them in the 2011/12 season. He has had a minus rating in 5 of those 6 seasons, with the exception for the strike shortened 48 game one in 2012/13, where he was A WHOLE +1 rating for his 38 games only played. In that prior first year of 2011/12, he was a -16. Then beginning in the 2013/14 campaign & thereafter, he had a -9, -19, -22, & a -18 rating for this past season. His positives are his 66 goals and 126 assists earned in 401 games played, in contrast to his defense which would also bring down the game of any elite goaltender.
Meanwhile, Cam Ward has a career 2.70 G.A.A. for them in 625 games played since the 2005/06 season, including in order beginning in relation only from Faulk's first season in 2011/12, G.A.A.'s of 2.74, 2.84 & 3.06 in 2 injury seasons of 17 & 30 games only played respectively, followed by 2.40, 2.41, and 2.69 this past year. Ward is arguably no less than equal to any starting goalie that Shatty has played for during his career (regular season wise), except for Holtby for one post trade deadline period of games.
So among Faulk (-83), and Shatty (+17) in playing for much better teams than Faulk has, there is no way to tell who would work out better OVERALL in playing for the Rangers. The thing that is known is Shatty's high asking price and term (unless his demand lowers to be specifically here for his one time rooting interest). But at least he would be available free of giving up any key player &/or other assets, unlike Faulk would.
If Radulov refuses to sign for slightly less in thinking he will be paid, as rumored to have been offered by a KHL team, about $9M per year to play in that financially worried league, he then would not be a smart businessman. KHL players sometimes wait months to receive their paychecks in bits and pieces amounts, along with many having no guarantee they will ever be paid what they are due.
However, the Habs cannot afford to lose him either, which may be why he feels he can get that demanded contract of 6 years at $7M each season. - RangerSaver
Let the Habs have him then for that $$$. The KHL will fold on a few years. They lost a team for this season and two more are gone after the next. You hit in on the numbers with players getting paid; it just doesn't happen. Probably why Lily Kovalchuk wants out.

Or just get rid of the option of challenging a possible missed offside call.
Graduation, just ended, on way to lunch, but my views:
1) Maybe but overpayment in my opinion from NY in each case
2) Doubt 'Peg does it, but maybe
3) Are you insane? Plus, Ryan is a UFA to be.
4) Love Eberle, but salary is albatross and he might get eaten up by NY if he struggles - airjan23
I'd rather Darling, but figured with Carolina taking Staal's bad contract we have to settle, and Ward would be a viable back up for now.
Is Eberle worth a 1st+2nd? Goes back to the thinking McPhee over thought some of these trades. If he would have just taken Strome he could have Eberle. - nyrangers9479
Great point.
Clearly Oilers valued Strome higher than Miller also.

But now they have Berube, Grabovski, a 1st and a 2nd...that > Eberle for sure.
Assuming Grabovski's brain isn't mashed potato, he provides solid veteran center depth. Berube can be a stud goalie in the future and now he has a 1st and 2nd to build up the pipeline or use in a trade.
