"Insecure?" Nah, just putting this to rest, because you can be DAMN SURE that guys like you would be letting Leafs fans know about it if Laine had won. Fact.

Laine isn't half the player Matthews is. If Laine isn't scoring goals he's invisible and pretty much a non-factor.

Like so many 1st and 2nd OA players before them, Matthews and Laine are attached at the hip and their accomplishments will be measured against each other. That is all.

Actually no! I never got into the Laine mathews thing. It was a completely useless debate. Both teams made out fine in the draft and such inmature talk is beneath me. I think you need a hug? It's just the Calder trophy! You need to take it down a notch. I don't think your giving us Marner for Myers cause he won the Calder are you?

The expansion draft was more about cutting your loss and Chevy managed that quite well. Now with trades, the draft and free agency he needs to fill some holes. Good start to the off-season as long as it is only a START!

Just so we're clear on the Calder voting:

Pts. (1st-2nd-3rd-4th-5th)
1. Auston Matthews, TOR 1661 (164-3-0-0-0)
2. Patrik Laine, WPG 1106 (3-134-24-6-0)
3. Zach Werenski, CBJ 711 (0-21-93-28-15)
4. Matt Murray, PIT 346 (0-6-25-52-23)
5. Mitchell Marner, TOR 273 (0-3-14-42-56)
6. William Nylander, TOR 143 (0-0-7-24-36)
7. Matthew Tkachuk, CGY 72 (0-0-4-11-19)
8. Sebastian Aho, CAR 26 (0-0-0-4-14)
9. Ivan Provorov, PHI 2 (0-0-0-0-2)
10. Brayden Point, TBL 1 (0-0-0-0-1)
Brady Skjei, NYR 1 (0-0-0-0-1)

Not. Even. Close.

Right, and if my aunt had a Richard she'd be my uncle... But that's simply not the case. What if we took away Matthews' 13 game goalless slump? You can't.

Again, Matthews does so much more with or without the puck, on and off the ice... Apparently 164 of 167 first place votes agree. You call that close?

Wow.

Since we are talking about the Leafs. What do you think about Toronto paying 2 million/year of Phil Kessel's salary? The real MVP of the Penguins playoff runs should be Leafs management.

I am also positive that if the Jets had a real coach like Babcock, we would be having a much different conversation about the better player!

I'm actually surprised by some of your comments on this thread.

when you say because of Calder trophy vote results it means Laine isn't half the player of Mathews then that also must mean that both Nylander and Marner are not nearly half the player of Laine, again, just going by what you said about the vote results and how telling they are, I'm surprised to hear how low you value Marner and Nylander, I actually like both players.

then you also said how much more value a center has, well since I see all time how highly Leaf fans regard JVR, I better let Chevy know that since Little is of similar age and production to JVR but plays center compared to JVR playing wing then based on this nice Leaf fans perspective Little is worth way, way more than JVR.

and finally since I had no idea how important the Calder trophy is, I also better let Chevy know he can start asking for the moon and the stars for Myers as a past winner of this Stanley Cup like award.

so thank you for your insight and stopping by, please come again.

It's been over 50 years since a Leaf won the Calder and that was the immortal Brit Selby. I am prepared to allow Toronto fans to enjoy the moment.
