No I think that would have to be announced after the freeze but not sure.
Now Snow and McPhee could have had a deal in place saying you get Neal we will trade you Strome for him. Again I think that would have to be done or announced after the freeze.
Chiefs? - nyisles7
I mean maybe what they gave up tonight is part of tomorrow's deal I mean I guess they would just say it then though. I'm hoping we hear something right away as it was said a lot of trades are on hold at the central office. Probably have to wait longer but if it doesn't happen by sat then most likely it's not going to |

Still seeing lots of "why didn't they just put Grabo on LTIR?" Not that simple. LTIR is complicated and hurts you if don't time it right.
Whether you think the move was OK or terrible, this seems like a pretty lame excuse. Teams get cap relief by using LTIR all the time, no? Is Garth really sweating it out every year with dramatic music playing in the background as he stresses over getting the timing just right with putting Grabo on LTIR? - UIF

I hate Garf & most know that, but it was a solid move of giving up nothing to protect players
Honestly the 2019 2nd pick can be recouped and have 2yrs to do so....
Until we see a final roster set, cant get angry over a 2nd rd pick - Ur Not Me
Could also trade Berubes rights for something? Again Lundquist was a 7th rounder so you never know.
Again didn't kill it just think it's a bit steep, and the Clarkson deal wit his them taking Columbus kid of says the same.
Just calling it like I see it. |

I still think the going rate for someone like Grabo with only one year left should be a 2nd round pick. A guy with two or three years left than a #1 pick. |

I think the 1st was to lay off players and the 2nd to take grabo and salary |

So if you look at it that they traded a first round pick for Vegas to not pick the better players and take Berube, and a second round pick and a mid level(?) prospect for Grabovski its about right. |

Correct, anything sent into the NHL office can not be done until after the freeze. Again I'm not 100% but I think that's the case.
And besides why would we get Neal For what we gave, it was poop. The 15 round draft choice this year is worthless bad draft class so is the 2019 2nd rounder we know this already too, Berube lost us a PO birth (it wasn't Snow) and the d prospect is also crap( I wonder why McPhee who was scouting for the Islanders would take him? Now you want Neal on top of it? |

I'm not losing sleep anymore aboit this shat bcs I'm numb to Snow's stupidity and ineptitude. He can go out and kick arse in the next week but it doesn't make this a good trade no matter who attempts to minimize it. Not good so far. An asset is an asset plain and simple. Grabovski had 1 year left on his contract and we gave up Berube who I believe was a UFA?
Usual gong show nothing to see here |

I'm only responding to the bold:
I really hate this argument. You've seen the drop off in success in the later rounds. This exact reasoning is why a lot of people give away money playing lotto. |

If we didn't move out Grabovski's salary we would be real tight against the cap and have a tough time adding any significant player/salary. The cap space is a huge gain. |

Just going by this Vegas move, it was not a good deal. Lots of pressure on Garth to make a couple of bigger moves. You have to worry about other teams thinking they have Garth in a tough spot. I hope everything works out and we have an impact move tomorrow. Rather not have to wait for Saturday. |

I thought we might see someone like Strome included for Neal. Not saying that would be it, but the main piece. - eichiefs9
I think McPhee would want more than just Strome imho. Only because at the trade deadline someone will over pay to get him.
I think the Strome for Eberle because of the Cap space the Oilers save off sets the players talents.
But I'll take either for Strom |

So you would rather have the 1st rounder, the 2nd rounder two years from now, Grabovski's 5 mil cap hit, a prospect 90% of the people here had to Google to see who he was and JF Berubes rights and not have deHaan? Or Nelson? |

Getting Eberle would not be a shock. Eberle seems very available. |

They had to take a player correct? So who cares if it was berube that's not our problem, they took a player that was gone anyways meaning we lost nothing. (To the post above you) also since there's no way Vegas is keeping him we have them a long shot prospect. Now as for the picks one protects current players and the other gives cap relief. If they are going to make a move this was necessary and I think he did a good job on it. The reason I responded to this post was yes cap space is huge and the more you break this down the better it looks |

Of course it is but it seems like a little bit higher of a price. Hopefully it's not a preview of what we'll be paying in the next trade. You can minimize it all you want Snow isn't worried about a 2nd round pick in 2019 bcs I can guarantee he won't be here but I am. |

Yup. Trust me I've questioned him on it and he keeps telling me it's a done deal with JT. I'm with you in saying I'll believe it when I see it BUT everything he told me before has been true. Let's hope his streak continues lol |
