He traded three first rd'rs in 2007 to EDM for Smith and the 2015 to BUF. This year's fifteenth is more of a trade chip if McPhee wants to move up and grab a player higher than his sixth. The cap space and keeping all his players looks like he is in more of the 'win now' mode.

So that 15th is an NHL player gaurenteed and this one is a crap shoot? Make me laugh how all draft choices are crap shoots until it doesn't help your cause or belief.

Come on that was a first round draft choice 15th for Datskuk's 3 year 7.5 million dollar cap per year hit to a team that was cap crunched.

Thanks for agreeing what Garth gave was steep

- nyisles7

I'm saying Detroit gave up the 15th in a much better draft. Today is what it is, I'm not hugging Garth but their is no reason to crush this

Look I love that he protected all the players they wanted and had him take Grabo, (who as pointed out earlier could have been put on LTIR for cap relief), but I just think it was a lot to get it done. I mean Lundquist was a 7th rounder so some draft choices work out, obviously

If Garth goes out and gets a couple top 6 forwards then we will judge that separately as well. But for what was reported the Islanders were giving up it a bit steep for me.

Detroit gave up the 15th pick in last years draft (a good one) to get rid of datsyuk's contract
- Dan Petriw

I'm pretty sure Detroit swapped first rounders with Arizona and moved back 4 spots. They also picked up a 2nd rounder from the Coyotes.

Not crushing it, love what he did just think it's a bit steep. Which is what I said from the beginning.

Look at Clarkson from The CBJ, he has 3 years left at 5.5 per, it cost them a first and a second?

As far as drafts they are what they are after the first say 5 every year so that doesn't hold water.

it's a good point 7 that Grabo only has one year left. It will be all forgotten if Garth comes through on the other rumored deals.

I hate Garf & most know that, but it was a solid move of giving up nothing to protect players
Honestly the 2019 2nd pick can be recouped and have 2yrs to do so....
Until we see a final roster set, cant get angry over a 2nd rd pick

Can Vegas turn around and say the isles get neal tomorrow as it's a side deal or No? Or something like that

I could be wrong but I thought I read if a player is attempting to come back and wants to play he can't be put on LTIR. You would need a outside doctor to determine he can't play and then he can go on LTIR. If I'm wrong I apologize

I think its pretty simple. Its a great move if he goes out and gets two top 6 forwards with the extra 5 million and still keeping those other guys for trade bait. If he just gets somebody like Eberle and some stiff then its a bad trade. He goes out and gets some of these guys rumored in the last week or so, I'll gurantee nobody is saying a facking word about a mid first rd pick and some 2019 2nd rd pick

Well the reports are that they might have to take back a cheaper, top-9-kinda forward that can be moved around the lineup. Strome fits that bill. The other name kicked around was Cody Eakin and Strome is definitely better than him.
- eichiefs9

Agreed, the Oilers get cap relief but loose some o talent so Strome give them some o talent back and may wake up with a change of venue.

Nelson, De Haan, Pulock, Strome and Hickey were all first rd picks. He could have lost one and held the fifteenth. What's the difference?

You guys make it sound like he gave up Crosby, not Griffin Reinhart.

Besides they have five older first rd'rs in the org, JHS, MDC, Barzal, Beau and Bellows all at different stages of development.

You really don't know the difference? Anybody you drafting this year at 15 playing top 4 minutes like Dehaan next season? Or scoring 20 plus goals like Nelson next season? Was that a serious question?

Your probably right, although I'm thinking with Grabo's concussion history that wouldn't be to hard to prove or find an outside Dr to confirm it.
Wonder if he really wants to come back, I mean seriously he's a hit away from permanent damage imho. Is it worth it?

You are way over reacting.

Just consider my post as my usual bashing of Snowball and get over it.

Your way to serious!

Time to lighten up. It's Freaken Hockey not Armageddon!

- SCLI

Well if Snow only gave up a 2nd rounder and a prospect no great loss not a bad deal.

If he got a prospect and A 2nd rounder rejoice stroke of genius.

Come on man you know this thread this time of year same old story line.

No I think that would have to be announced after the freeze but not sure.
Now Snow and McPhee could have had a deal in place saying you get Neal we will trade you Strome for him. Again I think that would have to be done or announced after the freeze.

Ok berube, who cares and bischoff, ditto as for pics I'm fine with that too as it kept our trade chips and gave us space. If they ever land duchene and eberle no one will give a poop when they score 5 per game, jt Lee, eberle, barzal, ho sang, Ladd, Duchene mean that's sick. Yes some may be moved
- Upstate_isles

Trade chips are only trade chips if they're traded.
