Seriously, I can deal with a bad team but having a Devils teams with a joke of a defense is just insufferable. Seems like yesterday Larsson, Gelinas and Merrill were anticipated to be the new core. Instead we have Reverend Lovejoy, Mirco 'Mueller' Helgeson and Seth Helgeson.

Really? Damn..and I thought I was hard on the team.

You can have a core that isn't only consisted of top pairing guys. Daneyko, Colin White, Rafalski for a bit of time, Greene, those were core guys who weren't always top pairing.

I think Santini and Severson are here to say. Beyond that, I'll admit there are questions for sure. It's not good back there.

I honestly think Greene has been pretty bad since he's become captain. I don't think he's a BAD player but ideally he'd be at best a second pairing guy at this point. Maybe even third...

He's one of those guys that was so "underrated" that he became overrated.

Completely agree with this assessment. I thought he was so undervalued early on, but he's been relied on a bit too much over the past few years. I think he's a great 4, maybe 5, but he's not the top guy the franchise wants him to be. But that's not a knock on him--he's been great for us.

Severson/Santini would make a solid second pairing. If Vegas took Cammy I was all in on using that money on Shattenkirk; not so much anymore. There is still a lot of work to be done on this team, and the #1 pick doesn't solve it, it helps, but a lotta work to do.

On the bright side we still have Prout.

He's the epitome of the guy who is captain before the new era of a franchise kicks in and the C is given to someone who actually becomes the face of the franchise. Maybe a certain first overall pick who's name starts with N...

Shero needs to make at least three significant moves this summer...2 of which should be easy.
1) draft top franchise center (don't blow this pick)
2) trade Kovy for a young quality Dman or scoring forward (don't settle. Worse case is sign Kovy to one year deal and trade him at deadline where value could greatly improve).
3) work some magic and get another Palmeri deal done to help solidify future roster. This is what will show the fans that Shero is the real deal.

My last hope is Devs bring back Stevens. Teams defense was much better under him then our current assistant.

So Vegas now has picks 6, 13, and 15...with rumors they want Patrick. How much would they need to give us to swap 1 and 6? I'm guessing with the rumors of us leaning Nico that Vegas would more likely trade with Philly.

Also with that ESPN article claiming we're taking Cale Makar #1, I don't believe that...and if that's who the Devils want they better trade down and get some serious assets. I will be mad if they don't take Nico or Nolan #1 overall. Some don't even think Makar is the best D-man in the draft.

I don't really get why Cammi has anything to do with Shattenkirk. We have a ton of cap space and that includes almost $5 to Ryan Clowe (in his last year on LTIR). Totally get people having different opinions on signing Shattenkirk but it's separate. Plus if you do sign him and Cammi bounces back an possibly benefits from an offensive defenseman we might be able to trade Cammi.
