was surprised they didnt expose spooner, I thought they exposed the wrong D man too, but what ever, if they do bring in another legit d-man, they're might not be room for either of them anyway, until McQuids on IR anyway. - 77emac77

OK. I was against that move especially after letting Thornton and Campbell go to get "Younger and more skilled"
Edit: The point is, one the more glaring problems with this organization has not changed under 3 regimes now. Piss poor asset management. Letting guys with value walk for nothing and making abysmal trades. - glove_was_stuck
i really don't think that's the case here. they exposed him because they wanted to keep others. they knew what they had. |

Spooner was protected because no one else was worth protecting. He can be flipped for something. But Schaller and co. would have never been taken. |

some were on here defending that.
rinaldo was a good gamble for a 4th line energy guy and a third round pick wasn't much to give for said gamble. - Fountain-San
Way to mis-remember the situation to completely fit your narrative |

I can see that. Didn't say it was "no big deal" that Sweeney traded a 3rd for Rinaldo. I said I thought he was taking wayyyyy too much heat for it. I said specifically I thought it was dumb, and I would have never made the deal myself. But I said I could understand why he would take a gamble if he thought the roster needed that guy. Again, don't agree with it... but taking a chance on a 4th liner for a 3rd round pick wasn't the end of the world. In hindsight, it didn't work out. |

I see what you did there
Am I overreacting? Probably. Just think it was a dumb move that was easily avoidable. You know teams need RHD, and if that's a position of strength for your team, it just seems foolish to give one up for nothing. |

Canes are stacked at defensemen with the Van Riemsdyk trade, I wonder if Sweeney will take a shot at acquiring hanifin like he did at the draft? |

Sure. Fair point. Bruins are dealing from a position of strength on right shot D so I feel they could've recouped something. Kid wasn't going to play much to begin with. |

It's dumb they didn't. What was the return for Chris Bourque or Caron? Thats going to be about Spooner will fetch in a deal. |

The 1st pick for starters. Not sure what the Canes needs that B's have to trade from. I really only see RHD and 3/4 Centers. |

I believe they are looking for a center, the obvious answer would be spooner, but they would certainly need to sweeten the pot considering Montreal can offer Galchenyuk and NYR seem to be willing to move Stepan. |

None of those guys are in the same universe as a top 1 or 2 C on a legit team though. Hanfin is billed a top tier defender. The Bruins don't have another budding 1 or 2c in the system. If they did. You don't trade him. |

Top tier might be pushing it, he certainly could be in the near future, but the kid got demoted last year in terms of pairings and ice time. |

I hate that people are making such a big deal about this. Have you heard what the rumored return for Miller might be? Seth Griffith, Connor Carrick and another nobody. Wtf would the B's have done with that? Yay we got assets for chiller!!!! Oh wait now we're gonna lose McQuaid because he's the only other Bruin worth taking because Subban, Belesky, Hayes, Schaller, Morrow are all have ZERO trade value. Is it really worth losing Chiller AND McQuaid for fringe players just to say you got assets in return? Sweeney identified who he wanted to keep and made it happen. Good on him. |
