Whatever.....everyone knew it was gonna happen. Now that doughty has his career achievement award offense matters again more than anything else

Personally, I Never thought Karlsson could compete. I mean, just look at Burns' beard

Posted this in the rumor thread but I should have put it here:

sure, if you ignore the fact that claessen was better in literally EVERY tracked stat (other than hits and BS, largely based on games played) and his minutes were not sheltered at all (DZFO% was almost identical to methot's)....then yes, it's not close.

i mean who needs things like points and possession out of a top pairing dman when you can have INTANGIBLES.....

Methot averaged 20 mins/game.
Claesson averaged 13 mins per game this season....the lowest of any Senator Dman (including Boro, Wideman and Ben Harpur). He was also not trusted on the pk, averaging a whopping 25secs per game.

But noooo..he didn't play sheltered mins!

Give your head a shake man.

It's one thing to claim that losing Methot isn't a huge deal. I can at least entertain that discussion. But to try to convince people that Freddy freaking Claesson, who averaged 13 mins a game, is the answer to fix the giant hole left in our top 4 is absolutely ridiculous.

I am not trying to rip Claesson. I like the kid and it's definitely possible the guy becomes a great Dman, but right now, he is nothing more than a prospect who has played sheltered mins for half a season. It's absolutely crazy to think some people in this fanbase think he is more valuable to this team's playoff success over the next few years than Methot.

based on what I saw in the way of side deals, it appears that it was the 2017 1st, + to protect Methot.

it sucks that 'we lost him', but I don't think his trade value is equal to that. The hard part in determining his value is that on any other team, he is not a #2 defenseman, but his chemistry with Karlsson puts him in that slot with Ottawa.

I think you can find another Marc Methot for less than a 1st+.

ya gotta love how McPhee has managed this draft!!

Not only has he drafted a pretty decent team, but he has also leveraged his bargaining position to assemble a boat load of quality picks and players via trades.

AND .... he's not done.

He now has a bunch of quality NHL assets to move in order to improve his team even more. I don't think that his team will be as good on paper as it is right now, but he has the opportunity to make it much better in the long run.

I would expect that this will be the blueprint for the next expansion team - they finally got it right.

Am I the only one who hates the whole expansion process? Why do teams have to lose anything? They could just sign undrafted players or free agents and hey look they have a team. I just find the whole process unsavory to be honest. Why on Earth are expansion teams able to just steal other players for nothing?

Yes the process sucks and everyone hates it. Teams should expose 7-3-1 or 4-4-1, not the other way around. Since the new team has paid the NHL $50 million to enter a team, I presume all the teams who lose a piece must get a portion of that fee in compensation, but I'm just guessing here. Logic rarely has much to do with anything Bettman decides...

I fear that process would create a team so bad they'd win less than10 games.
