So Pittsburgh GM sends their six-million-dollar goalie they don't want for a 2020 second-round pick and our awesome GM is chasing Jurco around the block for six weeks like a dog in heat. Can someone explain this? I didn't think so - glennjpawlak22
This is what's really amazing tonight- the Pens clear 5mil and change in cap space...good to see Gary looking after his team.
meanwhile we lose one of the best to ever wear the Indian Head Sweater in Hossa...devastating day. Hossa is my favorite player and should be a player that's regarding as fans from all teams as someone who's played the game with class and dignity.
As far as the meds - why would the guy lie or the docs? As someone who's taken long term meds for a chronic illness while seeing those meds wreak havoc on my system over time I would love to be free of them...how much more punishment should the guy take?
I'm sick of the whining by other fan bases about this...what about Pronger for example...the contract was legal when Hossa signed only to have the league go back and change the rules past fact...in typical Bettman fashion.
Meanwhile the NHL needs to rule on this?...well let's hope they don't wait too long - I'm sure the NHL presser at the UC regarding the draft this weekend - which I believe is tomorrow should be quite interesting especially from the Chicago perspective.
All roads lead to Bowman now - what is he going to do...? Does he have an actual plan? I'm praying he does...we'll see soon enough...

Well, if the 'Hawks had a $6M guy they would have been allowed to be left unprotected, one who has a very capable replacement after him for cheaper, then the 'Hawks could have done the same thing.
However, one price to pay for winning titles in '13 and '15 was to up the ante on contracts. What ended up affecting Stan was the plethora of NMC/NTC.
If the deal is for a player that Vegas was drafting tonight than it is possible the trade wouldn't be announced until tomorrow. Nobody really knows at this point, but I mean, what if the Hawks traded Kruger for a player that Vegas had not even picked yet...that would ruin the reveal. - breadbag
Ok fine I'll wait, if Kruger goes to Vegas for one the guys Vegas picked in the next couple days fine. But if nothing materializes with Vegas and Kruger and Vegas flips TVR Stan should be fired immediately.

This sounds like Rocky needs to put his big boy pants on for the first time

I don't understand how JR pulls these deals off and SB has to always throw in players and draft picks to get rid of players. Do other teams just refuse to make deals with the Hawks unless they totally take us . Other teams could have held Pitts feet to the fire but they get left off the hook

Bill Daly says the NHL still has to evaluate whether Marian Hossa can be placed on LTIR next season. No timetable for that decision. - walleyeb1
Seemed like the Pens were booed mightily-- which would indicate that the recent Cup winners are the teams they love to hate-- in Bettman's alternative universe that is-- even though it is a Cap world and the rallying cry is PARITY--
It all feels slimy when you see that questionable trade that Columbus made with Vegas--- and they pan to Torts with his poop eating grin-- like an inside joke or something-- too sleazy when the trade includes the contract of Clarkson

There is nothing more to say than stars aligned on this one:
1. BTB cups where both goalies played great.
2. Murray has two cups as a rookie.
3. Fleury the classy/team guy he is understands he is being replaced and waives his NTC at the trade deadline.
4. Now an expansion team needs a top goalie and needs to take salary....bingo.

The amount of poop you guys are giving SB for not having a 6m dollar guy to dump in an unforseeable expansion draft when he signed those deals is hilarious to me. Praising JR because he happen to hit on a rookie goalie that made his own 6m dollar guy expendable? oh and he had to waive his NMC to even get drafted? Oh yeah, slick moves there... no luck at all.

that is an inside straight for the pens... - bogiedoc
THANK YOU. Yes SB deserves criticism, but this is grasping at straws just to bash him.
Does anyone think Pittsburgh won't win the cup next year maybe I'mffeeling bitter but we may want to start thinking about a full rebuild . - HamiltonHawk

No it's not. That is what s great GM does and Rutherford is one. Stan couldn't figure out to put this sort of plan together to save his life. Isn't it also interesting that the Pens change coaches and change goalies. Do you think a young goalie like Murray gets a true opportunity in Chicago. Not a chance.

I'd say it's more of a mistake on mcphee's part, he should've gotten way more

Rutherford didn't draft Murray...or a lot of the young core that one the cup.
The things Stan gets bashed for, Rutherford is a great GM. Sigh
How many young players got a chance in CHI this year?

Unforseeable expansion draft????? Wirtz is on the executive committee for f's sake
The Hawks have a $6MM guy they can trade. His name is Panarin, and he is the team's only hope for a value return.
They can't even rebuild if they wanted to because they are stapled to the wall by all of the NMCs.
Last window for Stan. Lose Kruger, Hossa and Panarin and you have $14MM in cap to fix things.

Why did Murray get a chance? Fleury had concussion issues. Absent those, Murray rides the pine and doesn't get the chance. Just like any other backup playing behind a cup winning goalie. In the end, our Murray (Darling), got a pay day not far from the guy in front of him, which is why he is gone.

Agree why did he feel he needed Fluery there were other goalies , young ones , he knew JR would need cap space he was in the drivers seat. Somehow gets it done for 2nd 2020 pick. I mean awesome job to JR total credit.

Seems as though you missed that whole second part of that sentences when is said "when he signed those deals". Panarin was not draft eligible. Who signed panarin by the way? Oh, it was old poopty Stan Bowman. This board is ridiculous sometimes.

Great gms get goalies gifted to them by their predecessors and a convenient expansion draft to offload a cup winning goalie? Okay.
