I read through about half the comments and had a tough time not laughing at the comments Hossa's illness is a mystery and at the right time. You don't hear about issues players have with skin problems very often because the treatment has gotten much better. Unfortunatley if steroids are part of the treatment or similar drugs often they have really bad side effects.
I tweeted this earlier but going back to Phil Esposito and I'm sure before players suffered skin reactions to the gear, the constant moisture etc. Espo had such a bad time with his skin dryness/cracking he was almost forced to retire. Former Hawk Tom Reid suffered from a skin conditions for years and had to retire.
It's a medical condition and if I'm Hossa there is no real reason to retire. There is no telling how if his condition will improve, by not playing hockey for a year. Hossa doesn't strike me as someone who is going to pack on 30 pounds by missing a season, and no one knows what his skin condition will be like next year at this time. |

Usage/deployment and TOI do not agree with you. Structure of a team does not mean having a scoring 3C. - L_B_R

When you look at the Hawks' unprotected list, TVR is the best of the bunch for his skills (as a solid 5/6 guy) at his cap hit.
It also exposes on paper why, after the core players, this team has NO depth. - Return of the Roar
I think Bowman manuevers to have TVR stay unselected, he is a good value for <$1,000,000 cap hit.

That condition sounds pretty horrible.
Amazing, the stories on precedents seemed ready to roll today. Reid is even a former Blackhawk.
Looks like the cries of "cheater" may have been anticipated. Wish the brain trust gamed out the 2016 TDL this well. - tredbrta
It doesn't look right, so I am sure that they anticipated the questions.
It is one thing to question, another thing to just say they are cheating the cap. It looks bad on the surface because of the timing with his contract going down to $1M/yr.
I am not saying that the Hawks are cheating the cap. I just hope that this is actually real if they are going to be able to put him on LTIR. |

As long as Q doesn't pair him with Keith. He is a really good bottom pairing guy for 10-12 mins a night.

I'm sorry, but this just doesn't sit right.
I really hope the best for Hossa if this is actually real and would keep him from playing. But I have my doubts.
This has been going on for a while now, and he can no longer play? Nothing to do with the fact that he will only get $1M/year the rest of his contract?
It is just really fishy that this becomes too much right at the time when everyone knew his playing time was about up. - carcus
Yawn. Try bengay.
This is essentially a replay of Pronger. Legit medical condition supported by doctor/s and labs (assuming Pronger had MRI evidence of lasting brain trauma) .... There is even precedent (thanks VopatsRash for reminding us!). Maybe Hossa had it for years and played but age lowers resistance and immunity?
Thanks for the well wishes to Hossa but look at the bright side. Hawks just lost an HOFer and leader who probably motivates everyone he plays with back check harder (except Brandon Pirri).

There seems to be many deals in place which will benfit Vegas if they agree to not select certain players.

No, of course not. Questioning the timing, salary drop etc.... doesn't imply cheating at all.
I'm sure the "questioning" will get louder and louder as the ruling date approaches. Not to influence. Just to question. |

Idk if this was posted so sorry if this is a repeat:
@wyshynski
Bill Daly said Blackhawks informed NHL about Hossa's situation "weeks ago." NHL will rule on Marian Hossa situation, and cap considerations of Blackhawks' decision on what to do with him. Likely by July 1. - L_B_R
If there is any kind of question about the Hawks not being able to take advantage if Hossa going on LTIR, how can the Hawks make any moves?
I would certainly hope this is in reality a done deal. |
|
|

The Hossa situation was reported to the league weeks ago and today there were reports that kruger was staying with the blackhawks what would have changed between vegas and the hawks today to change the deal |

Just a reminder, the Hawks can't put Hossa on LTI until Day 2 of the regular season, have to carry him on the cap opening day (con't)...

Sure, once they put him on LTI in October they gave replace his $5.275-million salary, but where do you find that player in October? (con't)

Not saying it categorically won't happen. Just not something I hear from my sources. Yet. Nor have I heard Oshie. Yet. |

Plus there's the fact that having a player on LTI right from the start of the season means Hawks won't accrue any cap space as year goes on
|

which is a serious impediment come the trade deadline, not being able to accrue any cap savings...

Whatever.
I am not implying anything. It looks fishy because of the timing. I mean, there was no indication of anything about a skin condition that he was dealing with before this. I don't remember JJ or anyone stating that he was receiving treatments.
I get it, you don't like a Blues fan or a fan of any other team asking questions. Hossa stated just two months ago when the season ended for the Hawks that he was looking forward to training hard and getting ready for next year in his exit interviews. And now this, he can't play at all next year.
I will stop though, not worth getting into fights for stating an opinion that the situation and timing look questionable. |
