Thx Tuke, or just taking too much ibuprofen over a long period of time, as I learned this AM.

Yeah JJ, folks don't understand the long-term ramifications of the use of OTC meds like ibuprofen, aspirin, etc. Not good for the liver, kidneys, etc. Hope its a very short-term effect for you fine sir.

They announced it so Stan won't get fleeced on trades because of assuming Cap issues, but probably will anyways.

Due to Hossa's LTIR unfortunate issue, they are letting other teams know they don't have a cap crisis and have a bit (not much) of flexibility. So Stan won't have to Ben Dover.

I just asked my Magic 8 Ball what Bowman will do this summer and it answered, "Cannot Predict Now".

Yes, it crashes my browser pretty frequently. The ones with sound/expandables/lazy loading are particularly frustrating. Not that Ek cares to improve the experience at all.

he can come off of LTIR at any time once the minimal LTIR time is exceeded...

so the answer would be yes...unless i am missing something in BS NHL/NHLPA playbook

By rule if he fits under the cap when they activate him, yes. Would that actually happen in this situation is a whole other ball of wax.

Doctor chosen by the league gets to examine Hossa, review his medical situation, in order to confirm.

Ah, it wrecks my phone when I use it. I've taken certain measures to block ads on my browser for that very reason.

Wrecks mine too, will send me to a whole different site and I can't go back to HB, I have to restart my browser. And its only on this site.

Anyways, non-Hawk fans who think losing Hoss is a blessing, I will say that I rather have cap problems right now with Hossa than having 5 extra mil to work with without him.

Marcus Kruger is expected to still be with the #Blackhawks after today. His future beyond that is unknown.

where are reports of this skin rash and heart issues...

hawks desperately need cap space
hossa enters a phase of his contract where he makes 1 mildo with 5 mil cap hit
right before the draft and FA period...low and behold he has LTIR retirement situation
he had been quoted at the end of the season that he felt great and wanted to continue to play...

ok 2 plus 2 does not equal 4...

For a young athlete, it's very hard to get into hockey playing shape, and to stay there.

It's much harder - physically and more so, as you age, mentally - for an older athlete.

Add in the yearly toll of a physical game on the body and the little injuries that add up over time - back, legs, knees, neck, concussions - and it's no surprise that players are done at 35.

Now add in a very serious akin condition / allergy - and the real and potential effects of the drugs required to control it - and I'm inclined to believe Hossa and his doctor on this - and it's no surprise that even as dedicated a hockey player as Hossa apparently is, when his salary dropped from $4MM to "only" $1MM, he's decided to hang up the skates while he's still young enough to enjoy his wife and family and life in Slovakia.

The question is - should this be considered a retirement, or is only an injury preventing him from continuing to play - would he continue playing without the skin and meds issue?

As a Hawks fan, I'm hoping it's the latter.

Hoss' statement says, the side effects of the drugs used to treat the disorder are the reason he can't play. Not the disorder itself.

FWIW, he's worth more to the team than money.

If this is the case, this is serious mismanagement of assets, they should have protected TVR or traded him for decent return. I really liked TVR as top shot blocker on the team for minimum contract he had.
