Except he hasn't been traded and there's zero news of him actually being traded. The news today is of a health issue with Hossa, not that he's been traded - and he was reporting a trade of a core player. - CaptainBlackhawk
Right. And all I am saying is that there is plenty of time for him to still be traded. As JJ points out, sometimes these rumors can be opaque and sometimes they can be murky. I'm just trying to give Zawaski some credit, just as we do JJ. |

I knew you would chime in. When this doesn't happen will you promise to stop being a fan? After all of your "Kane to be prosecuted" predictions you may want to stop while you're way, way behind. - tredbrta
I never said Kane would be prosecuted. I said the choice would be that of the DA, not of the alleged victim. And you are proving that it needed to be said, since you still don't understand the difference.
Of course, you also quote something where I specifically say "This is possible but unlikely" and imply I expect it to happen. I highly recommend working on your reading comprehension. |

right but what i am saying is couldn't they LTIR him and then at some point essentially trade his cap hit to a floor team who needs to get to the 55M for some combo of picks/prospects, like so
Detroit Red Wings acquire
Joe Vitale
2016 1st round pick (#20-Dennis Cholowski)
2016 2nd round pick
Arizona Coyotes acquire
Pavel Datsyuk
2016 1st round pick (#16-Jakob Chychrun) - hawkss81
Yes...I think it is likely, I just don't think the Datsyuk trade is a good one to go off of as far as "trade value" because the situation was different |

I am fairly certain your original post said nothing like this or you just failed miserable at making your point - YuenglingJagr
Sorry I didn't realize I needed to spell things out clearer. My point and my opinion: Hossa will retire (for money reasons), he will likely play in Russia for much more than the $1 million that he will make from from the Hawks under LTIR. But that's just my opinion, even if it's not shared by the blog author or others here.
BTW: I've never heard of an allergy medication that is life threatening unless we're talking about a Biologic that although can increase risk of other infections, isn't considered a medication that's dangerous or have long term high risks either. Typically Biologics are used for auto-immune disorders, not skin allergies. And I've never heard of something so unheard of medically on the allergy issue (that seemingly everyone has anymore), that it cant be discussed. Is he on Chemo pills for a skin allergy for Pete's sake? Doubt it.
I lived with and known people for years who've dealt with serious allergy issues of all sorts (internal and external) and never was the medication they were forced to take ever considered life threatening or dangerous to take long term. Even if this is textile contact dermatitis caused by the synthetic materials of hockey equipment, there is plenty of medication for it that isn't life threatening or high risk and I'm pretty sure that if it was a known serious issue with him, the league could allow him special equipment made of material that didn't effect him.
There's too much "according to sources", "declined to comment", "couldn't be reached for comment" and "not disclosing" going on here at a time when his contract means little to him now, the Hawks roster cap issues coinciding with the expansion draft and current FA signings for me to buy this is just an unfortunate thing popping up now even if he does have an allergy.
Allergies being some kind of reason or not aside, in MY OPINION, this is more about Hossa not wanting to play 4 more years for only $4 million dollars, more than the Hawks wanting to get rid of most of his salary somehow with a LTIR designation. He scored 26 goals last season. I can think of other players more deserving of showing the door regardless of their age and cap hit on that team than Hossa. |

I don't think it's about money, directly. I think it's more about that he has enough money, and doesn't want to risk it for a few million more (which, after taxes and agent fees, is probably only about $1.5M total). So while I don't think it's all about the money, I think the money is an indirect factor. - jmatchett383
I agree to an extent. Boils down to this, each of us human beings would accept a certain amount of risk to our health for compensation. That number is different for each one of us. If I was in that spot, and with my family made the decision that I'll put up with the risks to my health for $4M but not for $1M, who is anyone else to judge. It's my and my family's decision at that point.
The other possibility is that the condition today is worse than it was a year ago, making the risk to his health higher today than what it was last year. Who are we to know without a licence to practice medicine or having access to the medical records? |

Awful news for Hossa. Really hope one of the big name hockey gear companies can see about making some specialized gear for him without compromising his safety. |

Hey JJ, hoping you can talk me off the ledge. I just don't see how the hawks can put together another cup winning team in the current "window" with the core that they have signed... without Hossa they now need not only that top line LW, but now a top 6 RW, at least one, preferably two centers who can win draws, a backup goalie, nhl ready defenseman, and I personally think the hawks organizational depth isnt great. So how can they put together a cup contender without trading away what is already a very limited pool of good prospects? They wont want to trade their 2017 picks since its in Chicago this year either... so what do they have to offer other teams that would warrant multiple, good young NHL ready players coming back?

I hope your better soon. You also have to watch out for other side effects with constant use of Ibuprofen, as an example it causes water retention which can gather in the sac around the heart causing real bad things to happen. - riozzo

Conspiracy theorists on this topic be damned. The hockey pads/rash is a real thing, lots of players at all ages have severe breakouts. And c'mon folks, before this happened if Hossa's name was mentioned in trade talks, we'd all get quite restless. No denying the Hawks just got worse today regardless of what moves are ahead. He's still an elite two-way talent. |

The bottom line is that Hossa could have indigestion. As long as he has a medical opinion supporting the diagnosis that that indigestion could put him at risk and he does not want to take that risk it is perfectly legal to IR him.
And yes, actual salary does become a factor in the risk/reward equation. He probably would be willing to take the risk at 5 times his current salary.
To anyone who thinks that is cheating.

The irony of this post is so amusing. Pronger had a concussion gets placed on LTIR and then gets traded in an attempt to CIRCUMVENT the cap and no penalty. On top of that the whole time he is "concussed" and still on the Flyers payroll/roster he gets to work for the NHL in player safety (I think), get inducted into the Hall of Fame (without retiring) and then after being traded for cap space, he gets to play in a high profile charity celeb game...with a concussion.
So the irony of your post is that you feel the Hawks have done something illegal and Hossa would just lie about his condition, yet Pronger...well he is so concussed he can play hockey with the NHL's blessing...while still being on the LTIR.
Bless your heart! - KMFDMLight
Stay salty pal. Not sure how Pronger was traded as a way to circumvent the cap considering he was on LTIR with the Flyers for some time before a trade was made. It helped Arizona as much as it helped the Flyers. I would bet the Blackhawks will trade an LTIR Hossa at some point too
I don't have a single problem with what they did (expected to do). It was obvious it was happening years ago. I think you confused me with several other people talking about "bullpoop" and "illegal"
It is also a (frank)ing charity game |

Kinda like Kris Letang and his mysterious "stroke" giving you cap space. Or his - ahem - "neck surgery" which once again gave you 7+ MIL in cap space? He had no problem being on the ice and lifting the cup, did he?

Maybe that changes quickly with the Hossa update.... I know they were hot for Hartman and Forsling?
Hartman + Forsling and 26th pick enough to get Duchene? - Bjm84
Def not. AA for Gal is our best move right now and sign Gal for less than AA. Bring in Boyle for center depth and perhaps Wingels as well along with a backup goalie and head into camp with what they have. |
