Great gms get goalies gifted to them by their predecessors and a convenient expansion draft to offload a cup winning goalie? Okay. - JRoenick97
What? Actually make a point. This type of move was open to all the GMs but Rutherford makes it happen. The Expansion Draft is potentially equally "convenient" for all of the GMs in the NHL. Some will take advantage of the opportunity. Others will sit by and do nothing. Stan doesn't move when he should and then gets fleeced often when he does. However, go on being pro-Scotty and pro-Stan if you wish. |

Agree why did he feel he needed Fluery there were other goalies , young ones , he knew JR would need cap space he was in the drivers seat. Somehow gets it done for 2nd 2020 pick. I mean awesome job to JR total credit. - HamiltonHawk
Mcphee wanted a guy to carry the load, or at least has shown he can. Until he figures out how his mish mash team comes together having a 50-60 gm starter is important. He couldve done it with 2 guys split evenly but then you got goalie controversy.
The deal was prolly done before any other one was done, ie. February, so that may be why it wasn't a robbery by Mcphee. I dunno, I think both teams did well, JR looks like a genius to all the pens fans who thought he was nuts for keeping Fleury. |

The amount of poop you guys are giving SB for not having a 6m dollar guy to dump in an unforseeable expansion draft when he signed those deals is hilarious to me. Praising JR because he happen to hit on a rookie goalie that made his own 6m dollar guy expendable? oh and he had to waive his NMC to even get drafted? Oh yeah, slick moves there... no luck at all. - JRoenick97
Oh no not the luck card what is this the Jimmy T blog not luck somehow Fluery was convinced to wave his NMC how ever he did it that's good mmanagement. Bowman was not able to do that with his players not saying it'shis fault but itis still a failure. Bowman hit on Darling and was not able to convince Crawford to move. JR gets Kessel and has the Leafs pick up salary. SB moves Sharp and Hawks add a prospect for two players who don't last 30 games. Not trying to bash Bowman as he has made some good moves . It's just I think JR is kicking ass on how to run a team in the cap world |

From CHI, VGK claim Trevor van Riemsdyk, defenceman. Much speculation that TVR may be flipped tomorrow to CAR. |

Hawks supposedly have a deal in place for a defenseman. I do not know if a third team is involved. But expect Hawks to move one of their 10 Picks. So 9 picks in 2 days for draftniks, like myself. |

@PierreVLeBrun Sure, once they put him on LTI in October they gave replace his $5.275-million salary, but where do you find that player in October? Plus there's the fact that having a player on LTI right from the start of the season means Hawks won't accrue any cap space as year goes on which is a serious impediment come the trade deadline, not being able to accrue any cap savings...Again, the system isn't set up for a team to just go out and replace that salary right away this summer. Doesn't work that way. No question it will affect what the Hawks had thought of doing the next week or two on the trade market in my mind
Here's the rest of the tweet - Assman22
Um, hey Pierre, if the Blackhawks have to have Hossa on the roster and be cap compliant on day 1 or 2 (you said 2, we think 1, doesn't matter) why would they LTIR him before they have players to use his cap hit? Wouldn't the Hawks just keep him on the active roster until they needed the cap space? Wouldn't that address the cap space accrual issues? If they had to, couldn't they wait until the TDL to LTIR him?
I get that they might acquire or call up a player who makes less to fill the roster, but it seems like there are ways around this.
And, the Blackhawks could work out a deal for a Day 2 trade with a team not up against the floor who could move some salary. |

I agree - it was hardly luck that the Pens had trust in young goalies. That is a Pens team mind-set that no player is just gifted a role based on salary or accomplishments. Sullivan coaches COMPLETELY based on present performance, from game to game and within games. The Hawks actually did have exactly the same situation - down to the AAV. Crawford is a 6M goalie too. NMCs can be dealt with but the GM has to have brass ones - coddling doesn't work. Darling gone 6M Crawford still here. For Pens 6M Fleury gone Murray still there.

Why did Murray get a chance? Fleury had concussion issues. Absent those, Murray rides the pine and doesn't get the chance. Just like any other backup playing behind a cup winning goalie. In the end, our Murray (Darling), got a pay day not far from the guy in front of him, which is why he is gone. - Return of the Roar
Hey Roar,
Don't throw facts at Z3Hawk. He just likes to come here to whine and complain about the players that didn't sign autographs for him. |

Rutherford didn't draft Murray...or a lot of the young core that one the cup.
The things Stan gets bashed for, Rutherford is a great GM. Sigh
How many young players got a chance in CHI this year? - PatShart

It would be great if you and others would actually throw "facts" at me. I get it though - the shifts at McDonald's can be pretty darn tiring for you. Oh, finally, I don't seek autographs. Thanks for playing now get to bed in your parents' basement.

People here have been throwing facts at you for weeks now.
You choose to ignore them and continue to whine and complain.
It would have been more interesting to hear your comments had the Hawks chose another direction after Cup #2 - and let Kane, Toews, Crawford and Seabrook walk for nothing.
Me thinks you would be singing a different tune these days.
Your complaining is old - maybe its time for your nap.

They could not leave Seabs unprotected, because of the NMC...those players HAD to be protected. Now that the rose is off the bloom, the depth has been depleted and the core is fractured, I fear we'll find that Bowman is a liability at GM. - kwolf68

Someone else was saying Hossa could be LTIR the last day of training camp , plus the Hawks or anyone could be 10% over the cap until the season starts (7.5m over) then LTIR hossa at the end of camp . Im not sure, Im sure Bowman knows and they'll figure it out. The Blackkhawks wouldnt LTIR Hossa and lose the befit of 5.25m in cap space. |

Hard to see all of this unfold and not think the NHL has said enough of the Blackhawks.
Enter TOR as the new golden team. - Return of the Roar
You just don't get it. The NHL NEVER liked (publicly) the Blackhawks. They won 3 cups IN SPITE of the NHL commissioner and all the other suits. |

Flower is going to get smoked (not unlike any goalie in that situation), so he'll have a goalie controversy soon enough.

PE, you keep saying that, and I'll keep pointing to NBC ratings as evidence that the league wouldn't conspire against its Chicago franchise.
The 3 highest Final series average ratings since 2000 (I think it was - I don't have the article on hand) were the three Blackhawk finals - 2010, 2013 and 2015.
And - 5 of the 10 highest rated individual Final games were the deciding games in Chicago series: Habs in 1971 and 1973, and the deciding games in the three most recent Blackhawk championships.
There is no way that the league - as incompetent as it may seem - would go against the best interests the it's only US network partner. |

I don't know why the NHL wouldn't like the Hawks. You would think they would be happy with a strong team in a major market like Chicago which translates into much better ratings. I'm sure the other teams would be happy to see the Hawks go back to being a mediocre team but that's to be expected. |
