PEB great player. Fantastic player. Really great locker room guy and highly thought of around the league. There isn't any player more respected. This is complete proof that the Flyers gave him a phenomenal contract and deserved all those minutes. Totally unfair certain non-GM's on hockeybuzz are celebrating. Sad!

Honestly, they're pretty much the same player, right? Roughly the same value?

There's risk in everything you do. So yeah, the No. 2 pick could be amazing and if you move down, you could look bad

But at the same time, yeah, there's got to be a package that gets Hextall to "yes". You were picking 13th at season's end. You can't be sitting there thinking you were gonna get the No. 2 pick. It's house money, and you can either make the pick or see if somebody gives you enough to get to yes

Big? Eh, maybe $0.5 mil overpaid. Two of the last 4 years he's hit 50 points, and he's a strong possession player regardless. Coming off a down year, but that team was pretty messy and had issues scoring. 4 years x $5mil for a 26 year old in his prime doesn't seem all that big to me for a still good player. Likely he averages out as a 45 point guy.

I don't always love his idea of free agency, but by and large, the dude knows what stuff is worth in draft value

I'm not scared to move down. The Flyers' No. 1 centers -- very good players, all -- since 2008 have been some combination of Claude Giroux, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter

None of whom were Top 10 picks, all of whom have multiple 70-plus point seasons and/or All-Star game appearances, with Giroux being a Hart finalist

It appears they used Marchessault with Smith to indeed dump the contract. Don't know what Florida is planning, but for Vegas I think it's a really good deal. For an expansion draft, unless they flip one, adding two top 6 pieces is a great start. It's a now and later move for them. They can afford to not penny pinch too. Plus, who's Vegas's coach again?

It's sounding like Vegas is acquiring the assets to make a "can't say no" type of offer but I don't think it's the right move for them or for us either. We really need that top flight center prospect imo.

Now if they can flip all those assets into another young center with 1C potential and they really just want Patrick then we can talk.

But I won't lie: A part of me wonders what Hextall could extract from Las Vegas. I mean, holy crap. Those boys might have five or six first-rounders over the next two seasons

I mean, look at it this way: Unless we see significant improvement, Las Vegas is probably gonna be better than Colorado, Arizona and Vancouver.

But New Jersey finished last in the East last season, with 70 points. I don't see an East team in freefall at the moment, so say that's about where the East is again.

Do you really think Las Vegas is gonna have significantly more than 70 points? I don't.

So by my eye, they're gonna be no better than 6th worst in the league. Just my opinion.

You get their sixth this year, get their 2018 first, get another first this season in the teens, maybe get them to give up Grubauer and an expansion forward that you like...
