Somebody help me out here:

There's likely side deals in place with Vegas for them not to pick the best players left unprotected (like NYI, ANA, etc.).

Presumably the price is a 1st round pick and/or prospect, how can somebody like TO leverage this with a 3-way deal?

Wouldn't the price get stupid?

i.e. TO sends something like Bracco, Nielsen and a 1st to ANA for Vatanen; ANA keeps Nielsen and sends Bracco and a 1st to VGK to keep them from taking Vatanen.

Feels like more than what we'd pay for Vatanen straight up, does it not?

Vegas takes vatanen to flip to the leafs and vegas agrees to trade for bieksa:

Vatanen, 2nd for lupul, 1st, bracco, Nielsen, and vegas agrees to take fehr

Vegas trades our 1st to Anaheim for bieksa

I like Hamonic, but a prospective top 4 of Rielly, Zaitsev, Gardiner and Hamonic worries me - you've got three guys who are pretty poopty at suppressing shots, (plus Gardiner!)... it'd be entertaining as hell, but we'd probably be getting buried for all of the time that the puck in in our zone.

It's as if they think the rest of the league wants to help fast track their rebuild and bail them out of the their problems by doing them favours.

Hopefully Rielly and Z improve a bit over last year and they get a little more help from the forwards who are a year improved also...Gard's #'s weren't much better if at all when he moved up to the 1st pair.

We just need a good steady right hander for the top pair and it wouldn't matter if it was

The other team has the puck 50% of the time...#1 pairs for the most part are not going to put up great #'s....especially on a real young team. IMO

Dumba should be the number 1 target.
