I disagree

and you can't equate Erat after that trade to Peverley. It wasn't a good trade on the surface, I agree, but it wasn't THAT bad.

fair. you guys got a a good year out of peverly and he helped with a cup.

Watch him go top-5 like Jeff Skinner
- AdamFrench

He's a solid pick, pick number 5 is Vancouver, can't see Benning taking Suzuki, he will pick a defenseman that won't be NHL ready for 2 years like Makar.

Yup.

I think Galchenyuk ends up staying. 1 year contract "prove me you deserve more" kind of deal.

That stategy did not go so well with Subban.

Indeed.

But that's always the tough call you have to make with players like Galchenyuk and Subban who'm you have doubt about their future.

Do you risk giving Galchenyuk a long term contract today? Or do you go short term but risk paying up more for a player who has proven himself.

Obviously Bergevin isn't a big fan of the former....

Personally? I'd try and sign Galchenyuk to around 5M per year long term. I think he'll bounce back. Just needs to shift focus back to hockey and less to booze and partys.

It really IS a problem in Montreal and young players.... too much fun to have around here I guess.

I really wanted to take a particular player in the 2007 draft, but we took Dale Mitchell with the 74th pick, and then the guy I wanted was selected next by Tampa Bay.

Lindholm and Pouliot were ranked like 22nd and 28th. Both go top-10...one for the best...the other...LOL!

I agree, he is worth signing. Recent talk and trades would seem to indicate a strong chance to move him. Drouin is a year younger and they locked him up without a significant track record. Both #3 picks - Galchenyuk likely would want a similar deal.

I'd be ok with giving him the exact same deal.... but they know the young man better than I do.

would be insulting to offer him less.

i'd say 0.5M - 1M more; and the same or more term.

I used to write them as Howard Berger.

I agree, but I just have a feeling in Bergevin's eyes these two players as mutually exclusive. They will keep the hometown boy and move Galchenyuk in my opinion. I also can see McPhee trading his pick, for extra picks. They pick 6th, most feel that there's not a great deal of difference this year between pick 6 and pick 20. Check out who the Leafs are picking according to Draftsite.

Even if there is pressure to move him, they shouldn’t have to sell low.

Good young players should always get a good price.

- Tumbleweed

Apparently a 3rd round pick is a good price.

I don't like that trade. Might as well keep him and hope than just throw him away for barely anything.

This being said, Beaulieu is dumber than a rock.

McPhee seems to be playing this pretty well. Said he picks his team tomorrow so today is the deadline for deals.
