For the Devils to move to #4, fair value would mean Colorado would have to give up every pick they have in 2017 plus something else good.
Pick 1 = 100
Pick 4 = 53.4
Pick 32 = ~ 13.5
We own their third
Picks 94 + 114 + 125 + 156 + 187 = ~3
So combined value of their 2017 picks is ~70. Whereas #1 is worth 100. That's a difference of 30 they have to make up.

Maybe he decided to pass? Taking Gazdic is basically punting on NJ's exposed player list.

Both of those TSN guys did, which doesn't make a lick of sense. To me, Raanta is the best goalie available. He's one of the guys you pick first.

Because that's what we did. We essentially traded for Alexander Urbom except from Switzerland instead of Sweden.

Just curious and really baked but when you say that the Devils allowed fewer shot attempts, shots and scoring chances 5v5 him on the ice. How do you compare that to players on other teams because being big fish in a little pond isn't that great. like if the worst player on team A allows X amount and player Y is first on their team but still way worse. Like I have no idea if I am making any sense here or if it matters or doesn't ( I've yet to really figure out or get into any of these stats lmao )

Literally just spit-balling here, if the Devils are high on one of the D prospects in this draft what would people think of trading the 1st overall plus maybe a later pick to Colorado for 4th overall and one of their young core guys (Duchene/MacKinnon/Landeskog)? Could be an interesting idea if Colorado is looking to ship out one of their core guys and replace them with Nico/Nolan.

But.....if that deal were to come around and you could get one of those three (not sure of contract status and that would definitely play into it) and get the 4th pick (which I like Makar more than the Finn) that would not be heartbreaking. I just don't see Avs doing that. Most other proposed trade downs I have seen have been horrible. This one was pretty good, so much so its not likely to happen.

If anything Mackinnons value has gone up since the worlds or whatever it was, so I don' t see in any world where he is included in a deal to move up 3 spots in a weaker draft. Mack alone has a very high chance of being a better NHLer then either Nico and Nolan. Just no way you get anything near that type of return for 1st overall.

Generally, I totally agree which is why if they were to offer that I'd take it in a heartbeat. I just wouldn't be shocked to see Colorado make a very unwise "shake it up just to shake it up" kind of trade.
