this guy was a first rounder

Why not!!? He's got all the skill

Problem is he takes too many bong hits before some games. He came into some good Purple Haze in the playoffs

Yup. He was a good guy though. Funny as hell in interviews. He would be a great announcer.

He's a panelist on TSN. He is pretty funny. And not just because of the accent!

Trust me, it makes playing more fun. I'm not sure I'd want to do it in a league where there's contact, though!

What's wrong with doing that, Capt. Doom&Gloom?
We need a top 4 RHD now. Our team is not really going to be better off for hanging on to the best player available 2/3 of the way through the 1st round of a weak draft, is it? Do we need to cling to that pick, just because we've traded away our 1st pick (sometimes foolishly, sometimes not) in stronger drafts for the past four years? If that pick can be packaged into something that helps round out our blueline and prevents Holden or Staal from playing 18 minutes a night next fall, I'm all for it.

Idk because maybe you try to get a first round talent? Nah nevermind fam.

A few hits here and there..lol

What sucked was that at the time, fighting was automatic ejection. Two years after I left, they changed to NHL rules. Dammit

Smelly has likely been alive for 5 of the Devils SCF appearances. Winning 3 of them.

Really? Gee, thanks. My point is that 1st round talent is a floating measuring stick. Last years first round talent level is reputedly far above what talent will come out of this years 1st round.
So, if you trade the pick to someone who's desperate for it along with some other asset, perhaps you can get a 1st round talent from say 3 years ago.
How is it that all of a sudden drafting someone in the 1st round is a sure thing??

Lundmark & Brendl probably made me never give a poop about the 1st round.

They (frank)ing ruined it for me.

I remember watching that draft and absolutely freaking out that the Rangers traded up to grab both of them

that was a year I was really following junior hockey and was keeping tabs on Brendl all season

what a let down

Over the last decade or so the Rangers have had a high success rate on 1st rounders when we've had them, Staal, Kreider, Miller, Skjei, and Del Zotto, that's 5 out of 8 picks that have played at least one season, Skjei will play a lot more

Yup. Thats why I never get happy about the 1st round. Although Vin is correct we have had some success recently.

Malholtra was a fantastic faceoff guy and defensive player. The offense never followed him to the NHL. Was a very good role player but not worth a 1st round pick.

I just remember all of the PR they were doing with him on MSG. Mainly about how diverse his family was since he was a wasted first round pick.

You think it would have mattered though? Seemed like he just couldn't find the offense so he turned his game into being a role player. Smart move because he did have a pretty long career in the NHL.

on a scale of 1-10, the interest in the actual NHL draft with everything else going on this week is about negative eleventeen
- jimbo83

I love how everyone is the expert of these players no one has ever actually seen play. They're all just going by what the other "experts" say. Insert Robert Downey Jr rolled eyes meme.
